CNN:

(CNN) -- Rick Davis, the campaign manager for former John McCain's White House bid came to Sarah Palin's defense in an upcoming interview with the National Review, saying the now-infamous $150,000 clothing tab for the Alaska governor was caused by a "failure of management."

In the interview, set for publication next week, Davis notes Palin's appearance at the Republican convention came only days after she was named to the GOP ticket, and the Alaska governor had few clothes on hand that were appropriate for the event.

"We flew her out from Alaska to Arizona to Ohio to introduce her to the world and take control of her life. She didn't think 'dress for the convention', because it might have just been a nice day trip to Arizona if she didn't click with John. Very little prep had been done and if it had, we might have gotten picked off by the press. We were under incredible scrutiny."

"Very little prep had been done and if it had, we might have gotten picked off by the press. We were under incredible scrutiny." You don't say, very little prep? Huh...but what about all that great vetting that they claim was done for the Palin pick? What. Ever.

A "failure of management." WOW! What a great description for the entire Bush Presidency. It's nice to see that Republicans carried on the failures that started with Reagan.

The sad thing is that Obama has to clean up the mess the Republicans "failure of management left in our country. The good thing is that Republicans will continue to fail. Maybe this time people will remember it and NEVER put them in power again.

If they were smart, they could have asked the educated, beautiful, smart, articulate, elegant First Lady Elect, Michelle Obama, for clothing advice. What a dumb excuse for loosing an election.
McFake fell on his own petard of stupidity, trying to outwit the very smart PE Obama, by choosing a 'dimwit' female thinking she could snag Hillary's and other women voters. I think when they saw this woman, their nether regions lit up like a Christmas tree and all rational thought went by the wayside. MOTTO: All that glitters, is not gold.

This is complete bull. She's a governor and she didn't have anything appropriate for the convention? Palin has said over and over that she would have been happy wearing her own clothes. I'm sure whatever clothes she had at home would have been fine. But the campaign apparently felt they had to parade her around like Miss Alaska because let's face it...that's all she had to offer. Her looks.

Rick needs to shut up. All of them need to take a page out of McCain's book and just chill. They lost. End of discussion

For those of you interested in how Palin got herself noticed (and picked for VP), the New Yorker has a very interesting article:

Leave it to the GOP to have a dress code for American citizens--if the Duchess of Ditz was supposed to be "just like us" anything she had should have been good enough for those losers.

Mr. Davis -- it's time that people take responsibility for their actions.

Americans recognize that political candidates for the highest office (including VP) should be dressed professionally.

Sarah Palin has said the clothes just showed up and she didn't ask for them. In sticking with her principles, she could have chosen a couple of outfits and sent the rest back. Instead, she wore them all like a celebrity and then feigned innocence.

The McCain campaign blamed Palin for the spree, blamed internal aides, and now blames it on a "failure of management" based on pressure to ready Palin for the national political stage.

The reality is this wouldn't be a story if the McCain campaign had simply purchased a few outfits for Palin and nothing more. But they didn't, so it is, and it's time to just suck it up and say bad judgment was used, it was a mistake by everyone involved, and the campaign is trying to rectify it. End of story.

Anyone notice that Davis inadvertently admitted to minimal vetting of Palin

I noticed. They didn't vet her much. They were in too much of a hurry to announce a VP pick on the morning after Obama's grand finale speech at the Dem Convention. They wanted to steal Obama's thunder and his media attention.
