Rick Davis Calls Palin's $150,000 Shopping Spree A "Failure Of Management"

(CNN) -- Rick Davis, the campaign manager for former John McCain's White House bid came to Sarah Palin's defense in an upcoming interview with the National Review, saying the now-infamous $150,000 clothing tab for the Alaska governor was caused by a "failure of management."

In the interview, set for publication next week, Davis notes Palin's appearance at the Republican convention came only days after she was named to the GOP ticket, and the Alaska governor had few clothes on hand that were appropriate for the event.

"We flew her out from Alaska to Arizona to Ohio to introduce her to the world and take control of her life. She didn't think 'dress for the convention', because it might have just been a nice day trip to Arizona if she didn't click with John. Very little prep had been done and if it had, we might have gotten picked off by the press. We were under incredible scrutiny."

A failure of management? The woman is a state governor and the VP nominee. Whoever assumed that Palin would be judicious with party funds can be forgiven for not anticipating that Palin would act like a teenager out shopping alone with dad's credit card for the first time.

Did they really cut off all of the price tags before she tried everything on? I heard that 1/3 of everything was returned right away because it was the wrong size or for other reasons. Did they cut off all the price, try everything on, found it didn't fit...then returned it? I don't think so.

I think they left the price tags on and Sarah KNEW she was wearing $3,000 jackets and that the clothes came from Neiman Marcus. Nothing else makes sense.

For no one to know the worth of the clothes, as Rick Davis states, there would have to have been no price tags. That is inconceivable. Therefore, I think Rick is...gasp...lying.

I guess I just don't get it. Why in the world, even if there was poor management, would a person that calls herself a hockey mom, down to earth, average person, not just pick a couple outfits for her and her family, maybe?

It's hard for me to believe that she had no clue how much anything cost. With five children, it's hard to believe that she was that naive. Most people with five kids know how to stretch a penny.

But, for me, it's a little believable that in her deranged mind she thought all of the clothes shopping was normal for her and her family. She thought that was how a presidential campaign was supposed to operate.

They never vetted her. They didn't know anything about her and she knew even less about them.

Could it be possible that she saw Cindy and how well she was always dressed and assumed that she had hit the jackpot?

No vetting either way! If they had taken the time to vett this woman, rather than trying to one up President Elect Obama after his convention, she would have had the time to take her own clothes with her.

Either way, it's McCain's fault!

Call me a sceptic, but if you don't even have your own presentable clothes, how prepared can you be for the national scene? This woman was and is still so unprepared. At 44 if you lack basic knowledge and skills, I don't think there is a time for you to catch up. And I don't think he is a quick or easy learner at all. In the last 2 months I don't see her learning anything from her appearances.
I honestly believe McCain and Co. should appologize to the American people for their selection. This, of course, will never come.
