I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Rosie

At last night's Broadway opening of Billy Elliot, Rosie O'Donnell spoke out to "Extra" for the first time since Barack Obama was elected president - expressing her excitement about his historic win and even praising the woman who could have been vice president. Admitting she'd like to meet Governor Sarah Palin, O'Donnell comments, "I'd like to have a beer with her. I'd like to meet her kids. She seems like a pretty nice woman. Although I have to say, I am thrilled her party did not win. [But] you got to give it to her for spunk."

She continues, "I think I probably would like her [Palin] if I met her....She had an amazing life for herself and her family in Alaska. Very successful. Before you knew it, she was the most famous person in the country..." As nice as Palin might seem, O'Donnell exclaims, "If [John] McCain won...I would be in the depression unit of the ICU."

About Obama's victory, O'Donnell says, "It's really beyond what I had hoped could happen...I can't really recall feeling the way that I did about our country. About the promise of democracy....Seems as though the last eight years have been nothing but a dark, funky depression...Hope is possible and change is here. Way to go America!"

Reacting to the passing of Proposition 8, which overrides the decision to recognize same- sex marriages in California, O'Donnell comments, "I was married four years and I was annulled three years ago, so for me this fight is not new. Prop 8 is nothing new for me. This has been a long journey...and eventually the world will catch up."

Rosie O'Donnell's primetime show, Rosie Live, airs on NBC on November 26th.

Thank You for this article. It is a good example of people getting along respectfully despite different views.

She seems like a nice woman? She seems like a nice woman? Apparently the Hillary supporter ODonnell did not pay attention to what Palin had to say about our fine leader and continues to say about him.

She can't stand your "kind" ODonnell that does not make her a nice person! Ugh, what shockingly poor judgment to cal this... this person anything but shrill and vitriolic and a user.

"our fine leader"....... is that how we're supposed to refer to the President-Elect ????? How about OFL for short. Yeah.... I kind of like that. Fine Leader is too close to "Dear Leader" of Kim Jong Il fame. Obama is much better looking though, he doesn't have those big glasses and dresses much better.

That beer would probably turn into a bar room brawl.

I'd probably find Sarah Palin perfectly enjoyable as a companion for an evening out, too. That doesn't in any way mean she is qualified run this country, or even be in line to run this country. And her cutesy, down home winking along with references to Joe Six Pack just seal the deal for me. She needs to stay in Alaska where she can do as little harm as possible

Rosie gets in on air fights with Ms. Republican hostess Hasselback then wants to have a beer with Palin who is probably cheering the passage of Proposition 8 in California. I'm confused.

It's possible to be friends with people who don't share your political views. It really is. I know that's a foreign concept here, but it happens to be true.

That concept only seems foreign to people who've reduced their identity to one over-riding thing. James Carville married Mary Matalin (they were dating during the '92 elections when they were working for Clinton and Bush respectably). I have dear friends who are rabid social conservatives, some others are gay and there's even one who was a '60s radical. I don't agree with some of their choices but they have more to offer than just a one-dimensional view of the world.

How self righteous for you to suggest that is a foreign concept HERE as opposed to.....? A conservative site?

Political views are not some abstract living room dialogue.

These views translate into real life consequences for many. Now while I don't agree on absolutely everything with all my friends, that is impossible, but if a person is a rabid right winger and holds intolerant views, etc. I really can only go so deep into the relationship.

I mean, let me ask you, Julia, could you have been friends with Nazis if you lived in Germany in the 30s and 40s? I mean, those were "political views," no?

I would like to know all the specific anti-gay comments and race baiting quotes Palin made during the camapign, 'cause I don't remember them and people keep saying it.

What I do remember is people saying her baby was not hers.

Oh, and I remember the Obama campaign race-baiting against Ferraro and mentioning race A LOT. As a matter of fact, I remember the Obama campaign talking about race ALL THE TIME.

But that is the double standard. They are allowed to talk about race but nobody else is.

Even though I voted for him.

Funny, most people remember things quite differently. Ferraro went on Fox repeatedly and slammed Obama for calling her a racist - which he never did. The only comment Obama ever made to her was to reply to her ludicrous statement, "If he white or a woman he wouldn't be where he is today". Now why would she say something like this? She was inviting a reaction and the only one she got was "I don't think that's a view shared by most Americans". That's it. That's all Obama said.

The Obama campaign didn't want to touch race but it was constantly thrown at them - look at Fox equating everything Far rakhan said or did to Obama. And Jac kson, Sh arpton ... come on.

As far as the Trig thing, no one in the MSM brought this up -- we the people did. We also brought up the AIP, whether her house in Wasilla was built legally, and much more, but the MSM let all that go too.

The Atlantic.com STILL wants to see palin's medical records. They are still pushing the Trig rumor. Sad decline of a great publication.

The house thing and AIP thing are almost as stupid. DKos has become a rumor-conspiracy blog, similar to Weekly World News.
