Politico:

Intense backlash from women's groups may have pushed former Clinton Treasury Secretary Larry Summers off the short-list to lead Treasury for President-elect Barack Obama, according to widespread reports circulating in Democratic circles.

The women's opposition to a possible Summers' appointment was the explanation some Democratic sources are hearing for why the Obama transition team has crossed Summers off their list. The Obama team doesn't want to kick off its administration with a controversy nor go head-to-head with an important constituency when there are other qualified candidates, political operatives speculate.

This is not right. If Summers is the best person to get us out of this economic meltdown (as many have suggested), why are women complaining about something this man said a long time ago, has apologized and spent his professional life supporting careers for women and making sure they are truly represented in colleges and the private sector.

When are we going to stop blaming someone for everything they have ever said? Why can't we admit we are individuals who grow and learn throughtout our lifetime? If I were one of the women in these groups protesting, I hope I would make the effort to learn the history/facts and make an informed judgment.

I trust Barack Obama supports women without a doubt and that he would select the best and brightest people to assist him in governing our great nation. Why not put your faith in him whether you gave him your vote or not? I am.

It's not about women. It's about his economic philosophy. O can do better.

"It's not about women. It's about his economic philosophy"

I think that was the point SharonAustinTX was trying to make.

It should be about his ability and expertise in the economic realm.

If he is the best person, he should get the job. The best interest of the country should come first.

If we want a great Treasury Secretary who would really bring change and renew strength and confidence eventually in our markets and universal social benefits then that should be Congressional Budget Director Peter Orszag...!

Get with the program Barack and cut Goldman Sachs lose or they will drag your adminisatration down before it even leaves the dock..!

You'll see...

First off, the man hasn't made a decision, so stop pressuring him. Secondly if Orzsag is qualified he would be put on the list.
