PARIS — U.S. actress Lindsay Lohan has been pelted with a flour bomb on arrival at a Paris nightclub wearing a fur stole.

Animal rights activists showered the 22-year-old actress with flour when she went to the VIP Room Theater in the early hours of Saturday with her friend, disc jockey Samantha Ronson.

The owner of the nightclub helped Lohan dust off her blue sequined dress and black stole before she posed on the red carpet. Ronson went on to spin tracks for a crowd that included reggae rapper Shaggy and "I Kissed a Girl" singer Katy Perry.

Why! Because meat, fur and leather are acquired through the conscious, premeditated murder of living sentient beings. Would you eat a stew made of your neighbors child?

Only flour, and somehow this becomes a story. The real tragedy here are the remains of those furry creatures that ended up as her wealthy clothes. Wearing dead animals is not a fashion statement.

If ever there were two sides that needed to find a way to communicate and come together, here they are.
The difference between animals being used for sustenance and decoration is a worthy distinction.
Humans have sustained themselves throughout history by slaughtering animals and using them for food and clothing and a host of other products.
This was a practice of the native americans - to use every bit of the animals they hunted. As it was in most tribal cultures.
This is absolutely separate from the cruel practice and terrible waste of raising animals simply to indulge somebody's misguided fashion sense and demonstrate their higher status (money).
PETA has to tone down the off-putting histrionics and bring reasonable people into their cause. It is, of course, repulsive to watch a pampered celebrity sashay in wearing the dead carcasses of some rare and beautiful animal. It's another thing to demand that we give up our hamburgers and shoes.
This is a distinction that must be made in order to give the issue clarity and form broader alliances.

Native Americans would have used synthetic and plant-based fabrics if they had had them, I'm sure. Nobody looks at a bolt of poly/rayon blend, then looks at a big-eyed doe, and thinks, "Screw the rayon -- I'm going to cut that doe's belly open while she's still alive!"

Many of the larger land animals in North America were driven extinct by hunting long before the "white man" ever got to its shores. (There's evidence they were declining already, anyway, but six of one, etc.)

I get annoyed when people over-romanticize the Native Americans. They were just folks, like us. The fact that they had a Stone Age-level of technology and made do doesn't necessarily make them wonderfully spiritual beings or more in touch with the cosmos than anybody else. As Jared Diamond points out, within 100 years of the "white man" introducing horses and rifles to the New World, the Native Americans happily adopted both new technologies, despite clearly having no directly traditional basis for doing so.

Anyway, I guess the only reliable concept to keep in mind on this topic is that of balance: don't restrain too much, don't indulge too much.

I'm with you. Was Lohan wearing LEGAL fur? I presume so. Therefore, the protesters were out of line. Throwing ANYTHING on someone is at the very least a civil matter and the protesters could be sued in civil court for battery.

Why is it Peta members go after aging socialites and skinny little actresses that couldn't fight their way out of a paper bag ? I want to see Peta members enmass attack the nearest biker bar and try throwing flour or blood on the customers. You see BIG name A-list MALE movie and sport stars wearing handmade leather shoes, beautiful handsewn leather jackets, I've even seen pictures of major sport superstars wearing fur. WHERE'S Peta with the blood and flour? Peta members won't attack the men because the men would fight back. So peta targets women, women that spent part of the day getting ready and when it happens to them are shocked to a standstill or try to run for cover. So step up Peta let's see some equal opportunity !

leather is a bi-product. fur isn't.

sorry, but there's absolutely no justification for wearing fur. Lohan is clearly either ignorant, or happy in condoning cruelty for sheer vanity's sake.

I'm curious. Why does anyonerhave to justify wearing fur? I don't wear it, but I never knew those who did had to make a justification? Is there a peice of paper or a note I should carry if I ever decide to wear something that is perfectly legal? I just want to clear it with the PETA jackboots in case they demand my justification papers.

What a douchey statement.
I can justify wearing fur over leather in 2 words: It's warmer.

When is this chick going to actually do something substantative like a decent movie, instead of being just a freak show for people to mock and laugh at.

Battery is the INTENTIONAL and wrongful physical contact with a person without his/her consent that entails some offensive touching. The offer to use force to the injury (legal term of art; not the common definition) of another is assault. The use of the force is battery, which always includes an assault (why the two terms are combined: assault and battery) Simple battery is not aggravated or not resulting in grevious bodily injury.

Fur is a renewable resource, whats not to like???

Leather is also a renewable resource. Pleather is made from petroleum (boo, hiss).

Cotton is a renewable resource. Polyester, nylon, etc, etc are petroleum products (boo, hiss).

Wear only natural things like cotton, wool, leather and fur is you want to save the planet!!!

You seem like an uninformed hyper active peta type. Take a few minutes, read some history books (websites, who am I kidding , you won't read a book) and maybe you'll see that the dude you called an alien above is actually right.

Fur is NOT a renewable resource. It requires far more petroleum products such as toxic fertilizers and pesticides than cotton, polyester, nylon and the rest, because fur comes from animals, who need to eat food; in most cases, they eat plants, which come from crops. The ones that eat animals instead of or in addition to plants use up even more petroleum products because they're fed animals that require being fed...it's a form of bioaccumulation, but of good things, that should go to PEOPLE.

Some of these omnivorous and carnivorous animals include dogs (omni) and cats (carn), which are often raised/stolen, etc. and killed for fur because they are cheaper and easier to come by; their "processors" falsely label them the more esteemed other animals like mink; for all you know, you're wearing your old "lost" (stolen) pet.) Animals raised for fur (meat, etc.) have to be fed long enough to grow to a size worth slaughtering for use as food or accessories like fur, belts, watchbands, etc. You could feed the world with the meat Americans eat. And save the world a lot of petroleum (pesticides, fertilizers...farming equipment...).

There is nothing natural about fur. Look into how the animals are raised for fur, meat, dairy and eggs. About as far from natural as it gets. http://www.choosecrueltyfree.org.au/fur.html, http://www.furisdead.com/, www.compassionoverkilling.org, www.meetyourmeat.com, www.compassionatecooks.org, etc.

That's just plain reductionary and ignorant.

Tell us again how many resources go into raising the animals for leather and fur? THAT is quite unsustainable, if you did any homework.

And do we need to get into the systematic cruelty and slaughter?

That aside, if I ever caught you wearing fur, I'd dedicate an entire bucket of red paint to your naive, glib, self.

Yes. Some of mankind's oldest environmental protection laws surround tanning.

Anyone who thinks the laws nowadays are strict should read history. These days you won't get hung from the nearest tree (literally) should you poison the water supply with your industry...

That said there are ways to tan without toxic chemicals. IMHO as long as we're going to eat the insides we might as well put the rest to good use. Growing an animal only to chop out the fillet and toss the rest is obscene. There needs to be common sense laws about how it's to be done until such time as a caring culture evolves and the whole thing is moot.

You'd be sorry if you ever threw anything on me. Peta knows who to do that to and who they better not mess with. Yelling about fur in their leather shoes. They should be charged with assault, you can't force your veiws on someone else. I'm not bothered by fur and love meat...and there is not a damn thing anyone can do about it, nor would they try!
