PARIS — U.S. actress Lindsay Lohan has been pelted with a flour bomb on arrival at a Paris nightclub wearing a fur stole.

Animal rights activists showered the 22-year-old actress with flour when she went to the VIP Room Theater in the early hours of Saturday with her friend, disc jockey Samantha Ronson.

The owner of the nightclub helped Lohan dust off her blue sequined dress and black stole before she posed on the red carpet. Ronson went on to spin tracks for a crowd that included reggae rapper Shaggy and "I Kissed a Girl" singer Katy Perry.

I'm sure throwing something on someone will educate them.
Makes perfect sense.

I will say that one problem with some leftist demonstrations -- especially the Greens -- is that the effect tends to be the opposite of what is intended. For example, an action like this (which I applaud anyway) is supposed to demonstrate the utter fatuity and in.humanity of purchasing and wearing furs made from animal skins by cr.uel processes. Unfortunately, rather that arouse an.ger against fur wearers, it tends more to arouse an.ger against the demonstrators. SOME of us get the point but most evidently don't.

(My favorite example is setting f.ire to SUVs. I can kind of sympathize with the impulse but regard it as counterproductive in the end....)

I thought this was a liberal web site. Then some people throw flour on a vacuous celebrity who causes unbelievable cruelty just to wear a coat and now most of you sound like Rush Limbaugh. Do you really want to be on record supporting "freedom of choice" to commit animal cruelty? The Repugs will welcome your "me first, because I can-and to hell with the consequences" philosophy with open arms.

I totally agree with you. I'm completely perplexed by what I'm reading here.

As I said before, the rich eventually lose their values, morals, ethics, dignity, and ultimately their humanity.

You're most likely correct.... we'll be seeing more of her than we ever wanted to.

I wonder how many animal-rights crazies are pro-choice on abortion, but not pro-choice on fur, leather and eating meat?

You're really trying to equate human reproductive rights to animal cruelty? Think before you post.

Try thinking a little more critically yourself, before your posts!!

I am not a sterile individual void of flaws; I eat meat, and I'm pro-choice, but appall abortion.... and I'm staunchly against animal cruelty.

These are all issue that have at there premise the same human conundrum! You can't disassociate those moral contradictions unless you live in a state of denial, or simple lack compassion for animals.

It's a cruel world. We might as well go around $hi++ing on everything we can find. In fact, the more pain we cause, the better.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:33 PM on 11/15/2008

Thank you for making that point! It certainly isn't more significant to the weasel that is suffering and terrified as the human so callously goes about their "job"...

Humans, with all their ego about being set above animals (some actually think we're not animals), often conduct themselves in very inhuman ways.

Just because inhumane people will traffic other humans or let an entire island of people off their coast starve (Haiti), that does not excuse turning animals into objects to satisfy the likes of Lindsy or Paris.

Instead of lashing out at the activists, why not question the money wasted on such frivolous material possessions? Why not ask Lindsy how much time or money she spends helping those who are living in poverty or organizations that reach-out to people in need.

The fate of some weasels are definitely insignificant in comparison to the things you mentioned.(war poverty etc) but It doesn't necessarily invalidate the point of these protesters.
I think their methods are silly and self defeating at best ,but their larger point should be considered. Injustice and lack of empathy all around, are a root cause for many of our woes.
That being said, it will take more than flour bombs to enlighten someone as shallow and vapid as Lohan.

Well shame on those folks who assaulted her. That kind of behavior just turns away support for their cause. And Lohan ought to know these anti-fur nut jobs are out there waiting to hurl something at people wearing fur. She's lucky it was just flour.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:16 PM on 11/15/2008

Shame on you for defending the wholesale slaughter of animals. It has certainly had an affect on the fur trade. Your probably just to young to remember when EVERYONE had a fur coat, not just celebrities with fur cuffs and collars.

What Lindsy does influences an entire generation of young women, so she carries a burden of responsibility for all the money she gets for play acting!

If I saw someone with a fur on, I would definitely want them to feel uncomfortable in it. Even you!

Why does no one throw flour on a nice leather jacket or that cool pair of leather boots?

No one is throwing flour on Eskimos either...what's up with that sort of favoritism?

And sheepskin jackets - no one is up in arms for the poor sheepies and stalking the wearers of poor sheepie skins.

What if the money to buy the flour was taken from a suede wallet resting snugly inside a leather purse, held by someone wearing leather boots and a lambskin jacket and who stoked up for the tossing with a good pond bred trout for dinner?

And I'm way old enough to remember that EVERYONE did not have a fur coat. Most didn't even have a skin coat to wear and most made do with hair coats.

Skin is ok... meat is ok...just not fur. Cows, pigs, chickens sheep and fish can be raised just to be slaughtered, eaten and worn. Just not minks. Got it.

In the long run, wouldn't it be better to educate people rather than to assault them? Do you think that attacks like this make friends for the animal rights movement? I don't.

Do you want to rule by fear, so that no one feels safe wearing a fur? That is not an enlightened approach. Ever heard of Mahatma Gandhi, the Dalai Lama, Martin Luther King, Jr.? Take a lesson from them.

It was flour people! It was a peaceful protest. It didn't harm anyone or anything. They brushed it right off. My wardrobe has suffered more just from my standing too close to the curb after a rain storm in NYC. And they call vegetarians wim py.

If people want to make a peaceful protest -- then make a peaceful protest..! I see no reason for ANYONE to be throwing ANYTHING at anyone (even if it was flour; this time around).

While I admit the flour throwing is not as bad as throwing paint (or acid?), should Lohan, or anyone else in the area, feel relieved that they didn't get anything accidentally in their eyes..?

Civil disobedience is much more effective than talking till your blue in the face to every morally challenged person;

You don't need to be enlightened to make a statement of protest. Give me a break! Gandhi, King and the Dalai Lama are/were attempting to change societies that were oppressing people in ways that are difficult for us to comprehend (caste system, civil injustice and Jim Crow, invasion and occupation).... those are culture based injustices that do not equate to the issue of celebrities and furs.

The purpose of the flour (should have been paint) is to make a public statement that is captured by the media, shames the individual, and begins a discussion.... wow, just like this string of un-enlightened blabbering

The problem with your logic, Dubious, is that Gandhi et al worked at changing the lives of people. Human beings. Animal rights activists defend their position by projecting human qualities, behavior and emotions on animals. It's absurd. You can't argue from a pig's perspective because it has no perspective.

If you're passionate about the "rights" of animals, that's fine. Live your life that way. But do not force your belief system on me. I don't share your views and I never will.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go fix a BLT and relax in my leather slippers and sheepskin blanket.

Seems like being a party clown is more important than her career. I have great sympathy for her, but its one thing to kill animals to live, and quite another to parade around in their pelts. But then again, I have a leather coat. Maybe its the flashiness. Hmmm... I suppose she enjoys the narcissism of being above societies "rules".

I hope the next day Lindsay went out and bought herself two new fur coats with a lable that said "Extra animals killed in making this coat, just to piss off PETA."

Then I hope she goes out and eats a nice juicy steak. Because Meat is murder... tasty tasty murder.

In fact, I think I'll eat a nice juicy steak myself tomorrow and buy myself a new leather belt in her honor.

Throwing flour on somebody is assault.

If somebody hits me, I will hit them back harder - that is self defense there is nothing they can do about it.

People have to stop being so nice and tolerant of bullies. Target them for retaliation and make it harsh enough to discourage them from doing it again.

So if you have flour thrown at you, you'll throw sugar? Baking soda? Eggs? Butter? Chocolate chips?

Then you're throwing a cookie recipe... and that's going too far.

Who's the bully here? '"Target them for retaliation and make it harsh enough to discourage them from doing it again"'? You sound like bomb happy George W. Bush! Grab your pitchforks and torches!

Violence begets violence. Throwing flour is not hurting anyone - It's flour, for God's sake, not ricin powder! The only result of this is that she'll have to a bill to have her fur cleaned. Lohan didn't get anything hurt except for her feelings and her pride.

You need some serious professional help.

What mentality does it take to throw anything on another person with the expectation of getting away with it? Utter stupidity.

I am so glad I live in a place where that sort of obnoxiousness would be treated with a deserved lesson in good manners. I cannot imagine anyone I know tolerating that behaviour, the rest of the world is not going to pout gormlessly at you like your adoring mother when you invade their space or assault them (even if it is only with flour). People are polite when they know what the consequences of rudeness are.

I'm surprised that there are so many readers here who haven't messed with the wrong person yet.

As I understand, under PETA, animals were put to sleep via injected drugs. It's more expensive, but definitely more humane. That is their point, I think. That animals shouldn't suffer needlessly.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 07:42 AM on 11/16/2008

You are using statistics fallaciously... over an 8 year period many of the animals would have to be put down due to old age, incurable illness, or abuse by the previous owners. Also, why the such a large guard-band on your percentage. Either the animals were put down or they weren't, so what's with the 9% variation. How many total animals does that equate to?

You people love to attack animal activist; I can't understand the misplaced priorities of our consumption culture. What have you been doing to help any animals?

There are more important things to strive for than fur coats...
