236.com:

Sure, we're in an economic crisis, but that doesn't mean nobody's hiring. President-elect Obama is looking for a few good men, and by "good," we mean squeaky-clean, unbesmirched, never-done-a-thing-wrong-ever good. Anyone seeking a high-level post in the new administration has been asked to submit a seven-page questionnaire that includes extensive requests for personal and professional information. For instance:

And that's just question one of 63. Applicants are asked for financial details, copies of e-mails and online transactions, information about organizations to which they belong, and a hell of a lot more. One section requests immigration information for domestic help, while 11 separate questions dig into an applicant's history of legal proceedings. (Sorry, sexual harassers!)

Unfortunately, this is absolutely necessary these days. You just can't get away with much anymore, so you might as well tell it up front, because as soon as your name is floated for a position, somebody, usually a reporter is going to be ready to disclose it publicly, preferably on the 6:00 news, and for many days thereafter.
Forget about the old stuff, these days you can't even get away with the new stuff you're doing, look at Spitzer, Craig and Edwards. The Edwards thing, and the Spitzer thing, will go down in history among the most monumentally stupid decisions of all time. Especially Edwards who knew what a goal fish bowl running for president was. And its still incredible to realize that Elizabeth knew about it too. Did they really think they'd get away with it?

I haven't seen the questions in the Obama team questionnaire, but I'll bet many of them are included as a direct result of some past revelations that dominated the news, especially in the crucial beginning days of a new administration. Such embarrassing revelations can bog down a new administration for days if not weeks, and throw the whole agenda off stride.

I don't necessarily believe that the administration is requesting only "squeaky clean" people need apply, but rather they are looking for full disclosure. People in the limelight are always being scrutinized to see if there is some dirt in their lives that can be sensationlized.

Future employers are looking at My Space, Facebook and other social networking sites to see how prospective employees conduct themselves. If it's online, it's public!

As for myself, I will work for President Obama in whatever capacity he wants the country to move toward.

I would vet someone to see if they are qualified and have their heads screwed on straight. We've had men who I believe would have been exemplary pass up throwing their hats into the ring because it's just too crazy. For crying out loud, it's not the pope we are anointing here. Raising the bar to the heavens is not going to get you the best, maybe the most boring, but not the best.

I do not care what the job is, I am not going to confession to you for it.

I would proudly work for the Obama Administration, if possible, regardless of its strict vetting process. It's good to see them try to take care of things on the "front end."

There should be a 'watch' on the repub party - and attention to any potential 'stars' that may vie for a run in 2012. I agree that Palin should continue to be a point of focus. With the desparate state of the GOP, they'll keep launching her out as their 'pit bull' to stir up discord and discontent, even though she's been voted down and labeled as a light-weight. I hope that the HP, Rachel, Keith and Chris keep on their jobs of policing the state of affairs of the repub party. I'm confident that the Obama team has enough offense/defense savvy to begin their plan for keeping the White House in 2012.

Palin could only able to function in her brief incarnation as a national candidate by pandering to the intellectually challenged with absurd fear mongering about Obama. In just the short few days since her rhetoric has cooled, it seems implausible in retrospect, that she was able to reach down to a level of the electorate gullible enough to take her seriously. She was never put in the awkward position of explaining her own alleged association with the AIP during the few interviews she gave.Should she everr somehow be a candidate on the GOP national ticket again, I doubt that any potential opponents within her party would be as deferential to her as the Obama campaign and the media were in 2008.

I second that Carol. Too important to not be vetted, we all know the outcome of ignoring that step, right?

I think its more of disclosure than disqualification. I dont know answering the question automatically disqualfies you from the position its just being transparent.
