When Dan Rather filed suit against CBS 14 months ago -- claiming, among other things, that his former employer had commissioned a politically biased investigation into his work on a "60 Minutes" segment about President Bush's National Guard service -- the network predicted the quick and favorable dismissal of the case, which it derided as "old news."

So far, Mr. Rather has spent more than $2 million of his own money on the suit. And according to documents filed recently in court, he may be getting something for his money.

Rather's long and distiquished career rightfully ruined by sloppy journalism. Dan was wrong to trust his sources without confirmation-journalism 101-especially with a big story right before an election. Take your lumps like a man Mr Rather. CBS is through with you, your money is on the dresser.

Like CBS censoring itself because of complaints from Republicans is a new thing:

For you young 'uns out there, back in the late 1960's, there was a popular show called the Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. It was initially a pretty safe as milk program, but as the Vietnam War wore on, Tom and Dick Smothers begin to lampoon the Johnson and Nixon Administrations as well as criticize the war itself. CBS caved to the complaints from Nixon and took it off the air even though it was a top ten show: http://www.freedomforum.org/templates/document.asp?documentID=15292

Did Bloggers cost Rather his Job?

Murdoch to media: You dug yourself a huge hole
With newspapers cutting back and predictions of even worse times ahead, Rupert Murdoch said the profession may still have a bright future if it can shake free of reporters and editors who he said have forfeited the trust and loyalty of their readers. ..

When Dan had the courage, and believe me not many reporters have the courage to go against their bosses and report the truth, But Dan did, he showed us the abu grauib pictures ,which bought to light what this horror of a adminstration was doing behind our backs..Dan is old school where reporters did not take bribes or give us proaganda but told us the facts.. He is dying breed in our media ..Of Course republicans did not want us to hear about what they are doing so had to get rid of Dan. It must have been hard working for the likes of Murdoch, Sinclair, Clear channel all republican bosses and owners of media .Thank you Dan

Everyone knows Bush got the easy way out of Vietnam. But know one was investigating it. I think Dan will win in the long run. Unfortunately, it will be years after Bush as left office.

And even today's children of people in power have it differently too. Why was Prince William exempt from serving in Iraq like he wanted? The British monarchy is just a tourist site. Prince Charles has been waiting 60 yrs to become King! Even Prince Harry couldn't serve like he wanted. Palin's son is in the green zone driving his commander around.

I thought what Dan did to Walter Conkrite was mean spirited when he wanted him gone before taking over and calling Katie a "tart" was unprofessonal. However, I agreed with his assessment of the story about Bush. Nothing happened until after Dan reported that one story. From the secretary to others in the squadron, no one could remember Bush showing up for duty yet if it was written or talked about the GOP came out in force.

The GOP shut down the movie about the Reagans too. It went to DVD and I rented it. It was great!!! They showed Nancy just the way people have written about her.

CBS News is nothing but a mouthpiece for the G.O.P. now. I have stopped watching the CBS Evening News after 30 years of being a nightly viewer. I do still watch 60 Minutes though, and last night Andy Rooney did a piece about news papers and news reporters in which he named some of the best. I noticed he didn't mention Dan Rather. To that I say SHAME ON YOU MR. ROONEY.

Dan was and is one of the best. I miss his reports.

More power to you, Mr. Rather.

You are the only news reporter with the courage to expose the deceit and fraud that has been in our government & media since Lee Atwater (Carl Rove's mentor) manufactured his first falsified "poll" in GHWBush's campaign.

Soon you may have the pleasure of seeing many "news reporters", who have been repeating what they knew were fallacious "leaks" from the government, revealed to be the hacks they are.

Please remember that Edward R. Murrow was also vilified after exposing Joe McCarthy. It took time before the country understood his integrity to be honorable.
