I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Christopher Hitchens appeared on "Hardball" Monday night and voiced his strong opposition to Hillary Clinton being named Secretary of State.

Appearing with Peter Beinart of Time, who is for Clinton's appointment, Hitchens said, "This is the woman who played the race card on Obama... This is the woman whose foreign policy experience consists of making a fool of herself and fabricating a story about Bosnia."

He also brought up the Clintons' overseas fundraising connections and called the idea of Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State a "ludicrous embarrassment."

A longtime critic of the Clintons, Hitchens wrote the 2000 book "No One Left To Lie To: The Values of the Worst Family."

I love the sound of a drunken, slurring, British accent in the morning! ;-)

Can we stop with the ad hominem attacks, please? It's the rhetorical device for people who have no rhetorical device.

Hitchens is a mean, nasty, hateful man. I have never heard a good word out of him on any one. if he supported someone it is intended to slam someone he hates more. For once I would like him to talk without spewing bile. Ironically he should take a page from Obama and try being thoughtful.

I didnt hear anything hateful. He said she lied about Bosnia--she did. Instead of name calling, name one specific lie he told or one specific thing he said that was hateful. And while you're at it, name ONE specific foreign policy accomplishment that Hillary has achieved. Now, let's have more name calling instead of answers!

I remember an appearance on "Real Time" when he gave the audience the finger because they did not agree with his position on the Iraq war. Watching this guy one has to believe that he really needs help. Bitter comes to mind.

Way to exaggerate. Seriously, the man makes his living by being a contrarian.
It's important to continue to question your government, whether or not there is a pretty face at the top.

Hitchens admits to drinking, and drinking less for family ...wife and daughter.

He admittedly drinks to compensate for his interaction with human dullness, (I can relate).

He wins, he loses, he is still a prime intellectual and untouchable by politicians.

"Truly, I'll take the honesty of a drunkard over a thousand politicians with media contact."

Drunk or sober he is correct about the corrupt Clintons. But let's GIVE her one more job she can screw up.

I am very disappointed in the staff and cabinet choices that have been announced so far: Emmanuel, Clinton and Holder -- these are all Clinton re-threads. This administration is looking less like a New Adam and more like Frankenstein by the day. But with that said, I wasn't thrilled with the Biden choice and it seems to have worked out. So I will trust the President-Elect's judgment on these issues till I have a reason not to do so. Let's see what he tackles as his first agenda items.

Obama has to hit the ground running, what with all the messes we are in. I don't mind having a few people on board who have been there before. Besides, Obama's still the boss--and he's a very, very smart man.

we beat the "clinton machine" in the primaries--------------it's time for change----------------the status quo is the "past"-----------------obama's philosophy of change is the "future"-----------------------we need new faces and new ideas.

If we are taking about potential for excellence, I think Bill Richardson would be a better choice. More experience - less baggage. But, given a short enough leash, HC could do a decent job as Secretary of State. I still prefer her on the Supreme court, if for no higher reason that to discomfort the remainder of Justice Scalia's professional life,

There is no reason to appoint MRS Clinton to the supreme court (judge scalia, aside): she has the minimum of credentials, has barely practiced law, is no constitutional scholar, has never been a judge and has shown exceptionally poor judgment in her private and public life. I also believe she is no match for Judge Scalia.

The personal nature of the attacks on Mr. Hitchens suggests something else going on. What's the problem? He's voicing opposition to putting the Clintons back in power when we just finally got past them and entered a new era. A lost of people agree with him. And if he does or doesn't like to drink how is that anyone's business?

The personal nature of Hitchens' attacks on Sen. Clinton suggests something else going on.

The guy's a besotted neurotic and (still) an unflagging supporter of the worst foreign policy debacle in modern history. The blood of hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqis drips from his hands. THIS qualifies HIM to pass judgement, between blackouts, on Clinton's foreign policy competence?

I question the wisdom of someone in the public arena who cannot keep his personal life in order.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:33 PM on 11/18/2008

I agree. but whom are you referring to? MRS Clinton, Bill Clinton or Mr. Hitchens?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 05:20 AM on 11/19/2008

Clinton is not a bad choice in fact before she was offered the position I thought if he had to have her in his cabinet, this is where she should be. To the dismay of the listening party. She may be qualified and she may have some foreign policy experience, but what this isn't is change. When Obama was running especially against Clinton, what was the platform? Change! What is Clinton not? Change!

It seems as though some of you are all too willing to either condemn or accept without really investigating or separating your egos. If I don't like Hillary, Obama or whoever your politically hot for and you do I am not attacking you or them I just have have a differing view of them. This isn't going well already. Looks like Washington as usual, it looks like angry commentators as usual. He's playing the re-election game already and that is why I didn't want to vote for him and voted for Nader a consistent candidate of the people. As a Black American I wanted to vote Obama but I couldn't vote for the same ole political machine disguised as change behind a brown face. When are we going to start coming together?

Ludicrous embarrassment, huh?

It's pretty good description of Hitchens, I'd say.

And his fellow drunks agree. Hear! Hear!

I'm warming to Hitchens these days since his endorsement of Obama. Hillary is not an inspired choice for SoS.
