I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Christopher Hitchens appeared on "Hardball" Monday night and voiced his strong opposition to Hillary Clinton being named Secretary of State.

Appearing with Peter Beinart of Time, who is for Clinton's appointment, Hitchens said, "This is the woman who played the race card on Obama... This is the woman whose foreign policy experience consists of making a fool of herself and fabricating a story about Bosnia."

He also brought up the Clintons' overseas fundraising connections and called the idea of Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State a "ludicrous embarrassment."

A longtime critic of the Clintons, Hitchens wrote the 2000 book "No One Left To Lie To: The Values of the Worst Family."

I love Christopher Hitchens. And he's right. Hillary made a fool out of herself on the campaign trail for lying about her trip to Bosnia.

I personally think Obama doesn't need her, and he will be "buying" the drama by having her in.

Didn't this guy used to be a reporter on British Royal Family gossip? I guess Diana's death left a gap in interesting stories, so now he's trying to report on "real" news.

I like how Obama ran his campaign without all the Drama. Bill comes with Sen Clinton, so the news media will thrive on this opportunity like they did with President Clinton time as President with drama, drama and more drama. Boy, not this again.

To borrow a phrase from another angry man, Spiro Agnew, Mr. Hitchens, when it comes to the Clintons, is "a nattering nabob of negativism."

Hitchens is kind of a cariacature and I'd be surprised if many actually take seriously anything he
says. In terms of the responses here, I'd agree with those who say that Obama has earned
the benefit of the doubt AT THIS POINT.

Its surely unlikely that HC will emulate an administration doormat in the manner that Rice has, nor would Obama have any reason to expect that. He can't NOT know what he's getting into. I'd put this down as an act of supreme self-confidence on his part, a belief that HC is a resource who could
prove useful, and that he will be able to maintain his focus in the administration in the same manner
he was able to maintain it during the campaign.

There are dozens of logical reasons it may be unwise, may make his road harder, and what I find by far the most troubling - that it may also make it more dangerous. I suppose history will be the
ultimate judge. But it seems to me that he's earned the benefit of the doubt right now.

The Clinton's along with the Bush' have been a formitable force in politics for years and years. Did anyone really think after Hillary lost the nomination that she was going to go quietly into the night?? I wouldn't have been surprised that her delay in supporting Obama after he winning the nomination was more to do with WHAT she was negotiating with Obama when he WON the election and her position in his Cabinet or at least given some position on a 'world stage'. Everyone thinks this idea of Hillary came to Obama AFTER he won. Things don't work like that in corporate. Why would anyone think it does in politics, where folks have longer memories and "you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours", which is operation as usual of that particular environment.

Not to mention, when was the other recent Democratic Administration that Obama could draw from? Would any of these mental midgets that complain about Clinton era people being appointed to Obama's administration complain any less if he was reaching ALL THE WAY BACK to CARTER'S administration?!?!?! That's the only other choice he has to pull in experienced cabinet level Dems.

I'm surprised that Matthews didn't get woozy from the boozy seeping through Hitchens' pores. Why does he always look like he is on his fourth scotch?

He can pick whom ever he wants for Secretary of State , the secretary of state don't make the final call the president does, Condi don't go to these countries and say this is what I think you should do with out approval from the president. He is the Boss, not HRC or anybody else, people act like he is turning over complete power over to her, the secretary of state can't go to another country and sneeze without the approval of the president, she is a spokesperson, a rep , an agent for the president, BARACK IS THE BOSS

Wow. Is this who we've become? Is this who we've become? Hell yeah! Thats how Fox news have made people feel and become. Yup! People like you John Beck and all the others Sean Hannity, Ann Coulter, Sarah Palin, Giuliani, Joe Lieberman, and others. If the people in the United States of America cannot get along how is the rest of the world going to act. These goons live in their own little rich world and don't give a f**k about the rest of us. Dito for the truck driver.

Hitchens is a very smart cookie. I don't agree with a lot of things he says and in this case disagree with his assessment of Hillary Clinton. She would be an asset as SS and I hope she gets it. Clinton is a very smart person.

The question is not when is Senator Clinton going to go away but, when is the boozy Mr. Hitchens! What is it with this guy? He's like a black cloud with a British accent! Senator Clinton is eminently qualified to be Secretary of State and would be a great asset to President Obama's administration and America. Just what is Hitchens qualified to be? Maybe he can help Sarah Palin write her book!
