Focus On The Family Faces Massive Layoffs After Prop 8 Push

Focus on the Family is poised to announce major layoffs to its Colorado Springs-based ministry and media empire today. The cutbacks come just weeks after the group pumped more than half a million dollars into the successful effort to pass a gay-marriage ban in California.

Critics are holding up the layoffs, which come just two months after the organization's last round of dismissals, as a sad commentary on the true priorities of ministry.

You nailed it dead on. This is what Christianity, as manipulated by the SuperChurch gurus has become. It is a political arm, no longer a humanitarian arm. The poor, the homeless, the single parent struggling to raise children, the foster kids looking for any loving family, the young rape victim, the minority struggling against prejudice.. these people need not apply for help. To them, the only life worth fighting for is pre-born and the only people worth defending are the entrenched heterosexual christian stereotypical families. Welcome to their perception of Christ's vision.

They're decency-exempt, soon to be hundreds of employees-exempt, and mind-your-­own-sorry-­business-e­xempt, and delighted to skirt clear Federal law with regard to political meddling as a religious organization. I think that Mormons have a 'higher moral authority' to define marriage for the rest of us. A Mormon would never redefine God's clear definition of one man and one woman creating a spiritual union.

And what better a resource then Evangelical Chirstians to tell us what we should consider 'normal' sexual activity. If ever there was a singular group firmly grounded in heterosexual, monogamus, sexual activity only between a married man to his beloved adult wife it is those bible thumping Christians and the Catholic Church.

So, I don't see all the fuss. As long as it is a group of people who are better informed the we are, who practice what they preach, and who have historically have demonstrated their higher moral authority, than I for one am comfortable with these people in charge dimishing the civil rights of all of us.
