As people wonder whether 'First Granny' Marian Robinson will join her family in the White House this January, we had to wonder about the other first grannies in presidential history. It turns out that Bill Clinton was a self-professed "mama's boy," George H.W. Bush was profoundly influenced by his mother's religious nature, and Franklin Delano Roosevelt always feared his aristocratic mother's domineering ways. I've started a petition to encourage Marion Robinson to join the First Family in the White house.

That's the way it's done when you come from old money.

Lots of Southerners use the mother's maiden name as their child's middle name. It's an odd tradition, but helps if you're looking up family genealogy records. Not a lot to do with the family having money, however.
