Time magazine reports that in his new book, Do The Right Thing: Inside the Movement That's Bringing Common Sense Back to America, Mike Huckabee settles some old scores.

Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee is not the sort of politician who likes to bite his tongue. But that's just what he has found himself doing over eight months since he ended his surprising and colorful presidential campaign.

What does he think is wrong with the Republican Party? What does he think of his former primary rivals? What is the best direction for the conservative movement? To each question, he answered only in broad strokes, refusing to get too specific or pointed. He was writing a book, he would say. It will come out after the election. He will "name names." Just wait and see.

On Tuesday, that book will arrive on store shelves, and in terms of payback, it will not disappoint.

On Mitt Romney:

Huckabee writes that the former Massachusetts governor's record was "anything but conservative until he changed the light bulbs in his chandelier in time to run for president." He notes that Romney declined to make a phone call of congratulations after Huckabee beat the oddsmakers to win the Iowa caucuses, "which we took as a sign of total disrespect." He mocks Romney for suggesting, during one debate, more investment in high-yield stocks as a solution to economic woes. "Let them eat stocks!" Huckabee jokes.

Fred Thompson:

"Fred Thompson never did grasp the dynamics of the race or the country, and his amazingly lackluster campaign reflected just how disconnected he was with the people, despite the anticipation and expectation that greeted his candidacy," Huckabee writes.

Conservative Christian Leader Gary Bauer:

[Had] an "ever-changing reason to deny me his support." Of one private meeting with Bauer, Huckabee says, "it was like playing Whac-a-Mole at the arcade -- whatever issue I addressed, another one surfaced as a 'problem' that made my candidacy unacceptable." He accuses Bauer of putting issue of national security before bedrock social issues like the sanctity of life and traditional marriage.

John Hagee:

Huckabee speaks to Hagee by phone before the McCain endorsement, while the former Arkansas governor is preparing for a spot on Saturday Night Live. "I asked if he had prayed about this and believed this was what the Lord wanted him to do," Huckabee writes of his conversation with Hagee. "I didn't get a straight answer."
The Club For Growth:
"I don't take issue with what they believe, but the smugness with which they believe it," writes Huckabee, who raised some taxes as a governor and cut other deals with his state's Democratic legislature. "Faux-Cons aren't interested in spirited or thoughtful debate, because such an endeavor requires accountability for the logical conclusion of their argument."

UPDATE Mitt Romney has fired back:

Asked to respond, Romney spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom said Huckabee was acting small.

"This type of pettiness is beneath Mike Huckabee," Fehrnstrom. "If we're going to move the party forward, we need to offer more than personal recriminations. Unfortunately, in this book, Mike Huckabee is consumed with presumed slights, and he seems more interested in settling scores than in bringing people together."

I love it, the venomous snakes of the republican party fighting amongst themselves.

Thank you Barack for making it possible to enjoy living in America again, when the dumb and crazies were in charge life for liberal democrats in this country was unbearable.

Actually, he's a genuine guy who's not out to screw the little people. I voted for Obama and am a democrat but at least this guy speaks his mind and doesn't play head games.

CAREFUL!

He's (Huck) playing with your head!!

Example~ He "acts" like a "Christian", whilst smilingly back-stabbing others. That is "playing head games". Not quite the actual teaching of Jesus. More like Judas and the kiss of death.

Amazed, i said, "Huckabee has a t.v. show?! They gave Huckabee a t.v. show???!"

I watched it... once.... his professional persona, which is i suppose highly cultivated, reminds me of Mr. Rogers with a dark edge. (What IS in that closet?!) Or maybe Andy Griffith....? Andy Griffith in a Face in the Crowd... or Burt Lancaster in Elmer Gantry....? He is not a simple man and his story is not finished.

Out of all of the GOP candidates, Huckabee would have gotten my vote. He was likeable, funny, and approachable. I felt like he was genuinely sincere in what he stated, unlike Romney, Guiliani, or that Thompson person. I still am not sure who he is

If the presidential election was a popularity contest, I'd vote for Mike Huckabee. Not only can he offer one of the funnest names to say since President Obama, but he's just such an all around great guy.
Where as Mitt Romney is a devil from Hell. Every-time he spoke my face turned red. I hate that guy.
I would have liked to see McCain choose Huckabee for his running mate instead of Palin. It would have made the campaign closer, but I want all people with the possibility of becoming president to make the right decision.

What is a shame is at the start of the primaries, and back when I was a registered Republican, Mike Huckabee seemed to be the most level headed, he was above mud slinging, and gave some of the most remarkable responses to difficult questions in the Republican debates. I was very impressed with his one on one interview with Glenn Beck early in the campaign. Huckabee was thoughtful, gave a convincing argument to implement the "fair tax" proposal, and appeared to speak for all Americans, not just one small group.

The wheels fell off in his treatment of Mitt Romney and then became "Mr. Hyde" in the campaign when he endorsed and later campaigned for McCain. His positions on issues appeared to narrow and he embraced the negative tactics used by the Republicans and did not denounce them.

The Republicans, so far, are just not getting it. They no longer represent the American people as a whole. Hate mongering CANNOT be tolerated. Republicans put forth NO proposals that would benefit middle class America. Huckabee just bought into status quo Washington politics. If they can't offer constructive criticism and offer alternatives, and accept accountability for the current state of the country then maybe Huckabee and Republicans should get out of way of people of positive vision, intellect, who are intent on working toward improving government and the country.

Putting NATIONAL SECURITY before pro-life and the sanctity of marriage??!! I SHOULD HOPE SO!!
Major nuclear plants are aging rapidly, bridges and levees are crumbling, our ports are totally unsafe, and Mike Huckabee wants to talk about the sanctity of MARRIAGE?? If this is an example of Republican 'common sense', I'd hate to see what the Republican notion of 'lunacy' is!

Huckabee is a big whining baby. His campaign staff hated him because he would scream at them and throw tantrums about things like not getting a corner office.

They are like vicious animals fighting over the remains of a carcass. They turn on each other quicker than rabid dogs.

These are the men that carry the mantle of Christian Family Values; whatever that means.

They are neither Christ like, devoted to family, nor possess any sense of moral or ethical values.

Are these truly the values of the Christian community? I believe, when they decided to bring "Christian Values" to government, they lost their way on the "straight and narrow path" to righteousness.

I think Huckabee is the rightful heir of the christian conservatives. He's decent, smart and a very good politician. I don't think he would consider Palin suitable for the office. I, of course, disagree with almost everything he believes in but for that faction he is the best thing around.
I hope and believe the entire conservative movement will fracture into parts; christians, libertarians, corporatists and neo-cons. There is overlap but the centers of each are too strong to re-coalesce right now.

"Huckabee farts on pillows of fellow Republicans"
"Huckabee rings doorbells of fellow Republicans and then runs away laughing maniacally"
"Huckabee throws water balloons filled with urine at heads of fellow Republicans"
"Huckabee puts sugar in gas tanks of fellow Republicans"
"Huckabee hot-shoes fellow Republicans"

This IS fun.
