"Lipstick Jungle" Not Canceled Yet After All

Reports last week that NBC's "Lipstick Jungle" was canceled may have been premature. After NBC shuffled its lineup and moved the show to Friday several weeks ago, few were surprised to hear that "Jungle" was canceled along with "My Own Worst Enemy." Now NBC Entertainment co-chair Ben Silverman says the show may have new life — if its ratings growth continues.

The New York Times' Bill Carter reports:

But as of this week, the show is breathing again. The reason: it showed signs of life this past Friday, and it picked up 50 percent more viewers when delayed viewing (from DVRs and other devices) was included in the episode a week earlier.

The show also received an outpouring of support from fans.

Ben Silverman, the co-chairman of NBC Entertainment, said Monday that NBC will now definitely finish the 13 episodes that the network originally ordered -- it has 4 more episodes to run -- and may order more if the show "grows more."

Over the weekend, Brooke Shields assured reporters that the show had not been canceled:

"They thought that because My Own Worst Enemy has been shut down that the same thing had happened to us, and it's not true. They're not breaking down the sets. We're still working. We still have more to do, so it's erroneously presented that we've been canceled, thank God.

"Our bosses are saying, 'You're not canceled, don't worry. We're just trying to figure out how to make this make sense.'

"I mean, we're basically No. 1 if you look at DVR. And you look at all that. So the public is watching it."

I gota say, pretty terrible move NBC. You guys would be better off having like 5 different law & orders kinda like how cbs has milked csi all the way to the top.

also...the Nielsons are a total joke, as someone who worked for a Nielson sub-contractor, you should not believe anything the Nielson company tells you, most of the "ratings" are a complete fabrication along with the surveys they do for 'Test Audiences" ......Total B.S.

This show is a great escape for me on Friday nights, there is not much on any of the channels and now that Bill Maher is on hiatus, Lipstick Jungle is all I have to look forward to! Yep, pathetic, middle aged woman whose husband is watching House repeats or Starter Wife while i watch Lipstick Jungle. Our date night is Saturday, which is easily the worst night of tv.

It's garbage like this that confirm that cutting off network television in our household is the right thing to do -

I',m glad the show will continue...we need a bit of glossy fluff to distract us from the perils we face in the new world order. "Life on Mars" is a terrific new show too. It's about a 2008 NY detective thrust back in time to 1973 and has nothing to do with Mars or aliens.

Excellent show. Jungle along with Prison Break are my two top favorites. Acting in Jungle is also excellent. Was very disappointed to learn of purported cancellation. Now hope the show does indeed continue.

I do not understand why anyone wants to watch a group of shallow woman for a solid hour. On the other hand, I liked "My Own Worst Enemy". Get rid of the soap opera or put it on in the daytime where it belongs.

Think "Sex in the city"

Personally I think its trash, that is just my opinion. My own worst enemy is a great show.

Meanwhile KNIGHT RIDER gets picked up for a full season???

Maybe some of us like to watch so we can escape our droll, boring lives? Maybe because we get tired of hearing how horrible the economy is? Maybe it's because for an hour it's fun to forget the real world and live in NYC, wear fabulous clothes and date hot men. Just like anything else - if it's not bothering you, why do you care why we watch?

As a Nielsen rating household, I can tell you that my rating box is almost always broken and it's competely stupid to take nielsen word about about who is watching and who is not.

Whew dodged that bullet!
YEA! I'm excited!I love the show. I was totally uninterested in Sex&the City just could not relate BUT Lipstick Jungle I can! Candice Bushnell has "aged" well.
I was pleasantly surprised at the web presence and tie ins. I thought NBC was making a big mistake and wasting $$$$$ when I heard it was cancelled.
I loved the dress Nico wore to her husbands funeral and searched for some info on it and that's how I found the webpages NBC had for Lipstick Jungle and the info on all the clothes, shoes and accessories the women wear.

Sadly Nico's dress was pretty much backless...why she was only shot from the front I guess. Knockout dress though!

I love this show and I hope NBC keeps it. That network doesn't give anybody a real chance IMHO.

I absolutely fell in love with this show, I can't believe they were thinking of cancelling it. I hope they don't. Is it all these crappy reality shows that are outshadowing the juicy shows we women love so much. This is my escape show. Please don't cancel.

Glad to see NBC paying attention to the live plus seven now. after binning 'studio 60'. which had, at the time, the highest live+7 boost on television. but hey, now i don't have to tivo volkswagen minivan commercials to be frightened by brooke shields.
