Palin Book Deal Said To Be Worth $7 Million

She failed to save John McCain from presidential election doom, but Sarah Palin, the Republican senator's controversial running mate, may yet emerge as the saviour of the American publishing industry. Literary agents are queueing up to sign her to a book deal that could earn her up to $7m.

With Barack Obama's election victory certain to generate dozens of volumes from politicians, strategists and journalists - and with another shelfload of memoirs expected from members of President George W Bush's administration - Palin's personal account of her tumultuous introduction to national politics is widely regarded as the book most likely to repay a multi-million-dollar advance.

"She's poised to make a ton of money," said Howard Rubenstein, New York's best-known public relations adviser.

The good thing, is that apparently according to Alaska law, she cannot take cash for a book and remain the Governor. If she does take the deal, then she may be forced to leave her office and would show herself to be a true sell-out and someone who would happily trade political clout for fame and money.

Once upon a time someone like her would go back and quietly either resume work or resign. NOW, when they are proven liars, spineless, mob inciters, corrupt officials who abuse their power and all around losers THEY GET MILLION DOLLAR BOOK DEALS, TV INTERVIEWS and are treated like the top rated celebrities with all the perks.

Stuff like this angers me as a writer. Ditto for Joe the Plumber. If we keep getting half baked trash like this on shelves than people will certainly quit reading. We don't really believe Palin will paint an honest portrait of herself in her book. And we've already been saturated with the rest of her during the campaign. Everybody and their brother writes books all of a sudden--something for which I had to get a degree. Amazing. I could have saved the tuition if it's that easy.

First of all, clearly Palin won't be able to write the book herself. There will be someone else to do it for her.

Secondly, all I can say is "Wow." A writing degree?
