Prince

Update 2:50 pm

According to Perez Hilton, Prince is now claiming that he was misquoted in the interview:

Apparently, the interviewer did not even use a recorder when she spoke with His Holy Purpleness, and that when she called his people to fact check, it turned out she had several factual inaccuracies, including a little bit about Prince recovering from hip surgery, which he never even had... What His Purpleness actually did was gesture to the Bible and said he follows what it teaches, referring mainly to the parts about loving everyone and refraining from judgment...

"We're very angry he was misquoted," says our Prince insider.

***PREVIOUSLY***

The New Yorker has an interview with Prince at his new Los Angeles home to talk about a new book, and during it talk turned to religion.

Seven years ago, he became a Jehovah's Witness. He said that he had moved to L.A. so that he could understand the hearts and minds of the music moguls. "I wanted to be around people, connected to people, for work," he said. "You know, it's all about religion. That's what unites people here. They all have the same religion, so I wanted to sit down with them, to understand the way they see things, how they read Scripture."

Prince had his change of faith, he said, after a two-year-long debate with a musician friend, Larry Graham. "I don't see it really as a conversion," he said. "More, you know, it's a realization. It's like Morpheus and Neo in 'The Matrix.' " He attends meetings at a local Kingdom Hall, and, like his fellow-witnesses, he leaves his gated community from time to time to knock on doors and proselytize. "Sometimes people act surprised, but mostly they're really cool about it," he said.

Recently, Prince hosted an executive who works for Philip Anschutz, the Christian businessman whose company owns the Staples Center. "We started talking red and blue," Prince said. "People with money--money like that--are not affected by the stock market, and they're not freaking out over anything. They're just watching. So here's how it is: you've got the Republicans, and basically they want to live according to this." He pointed to a Bible. "But there's the problem of interpretation, and you've got some churches, some people, basically doing things and saying it comes from here, but it doesn't. And then on the opposite end of the spectrum you've got blue, you've got the Democrats, and they're, like, 'You can do whatever you want.' Gay marriage, whatever. But neither of them is right."

When asked about his perspective on social issues--gay marriage, abortion--Prince tapped his Bible and said, "God came to earth and saw people sticking it wherever and doing it with whatever, and he just cleared it all out. He was, like, 'Enough.' "

Didn't Prince wear women shirts and high heel boots while performing years ago?
Didn't he turn out Vanity, Shelia E, Carmen Electra, Apollonia and all the other drugged out has been women back in the 1980's and 1990's! I thought he was weird then and I truly think he is weird today.

Just shows how the bible and God's Holy Spirit can change people.

Yes, from what we've seen n the past months, the "bible" and "god's holy spirit" changes people into bigots !

So using your fairy tale rationale, I guess that all of Prince's musical talent before he "found god" was not god's work right ? It was the work of the devil, or a witch or maybe a mormon unicorn ?

I liked him better when he was religiously straight. He seemed to be a lot less judgmental !

If Prince is now denying having said such a thing, it shouldn't be up to Perez Hilton to tell us. Prince should make it loud and clear that he opposes prop h8. How about a song about people getting to love who they want to, purple guy?

Prince is always reinventing himself, however, I don't like this new version. I have seen enough Bible tappers and thumpers in the last year to last me a lifetime.

This from the wholly misogynistic Prince? How can anyone who hates women, as throughly and completely as does Prince, be against gay marriage?

Me thinks the lady doth protest!

And he thinks he's a Jehovah's Witness?!?!?!?!

BUWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

THAT'S RICH!

It's called he grew up... you know like you did and I would hope millions of us do. It is apart of life to mature and have a different perspective on life then one might have had a 18, 19, 25, 30 years old!

Naaah, it's called Narcissistic people who are scared of death so they have to search for something to hang on to in the hopes of living forever...when in reality, there is no single person on the earth who knows what will happen when we're dead. [all in one breathe] Those who think otherwise just take what's spoon-fed out of fear...

I am a Christian that believes that homosexuality is just as wrong as fornication and adultery.
( I find it hypocritical that folks don't picket the home wreckers too) But what I don't understand is WHY I am villified (sp) for my beliefs when I choose to take a neutral stance to the choices of others.
I am not one to judge another soul. But please respect what I believe just as much as I respect that everyone has freewill.

So you can have your religious beliefs. You just can't have religious beliefs that interfere with, or in any manner, affect the laws under which our society lives. That includes gay marriage. So, keep your "Christian" beliefs away from the voting booth and away from anything even tangentially related to law-making in this country, and you're fine. Otherwise, I got a holy war to wage with your name on it!

Oh I am scared... If you think you can handle coming to my neck of the hood and facing me in this so called holy war you are talking about... I say bring it... but know this when you come to where I like in LA you might not get out!

vilified has just one 'l' -- it's related to "vile"; that's how i remember it.

i respect what you believe as long as you don't push it on others. believe gay marriage goes against your faith? don't get married to a partner of the same sex. think fornication is wrong? don't have sex outside of marriage. think adultery is a sin? don't cheat on your spouse. all of that is fine with me, no problem at all -- i applaud people when they manage to live up to their standards.

it's when religious people try to force their morals on others that i get up in arms about it. and frankly, it surprises me that so many christians find nothing more important to rant about than gays. there are so many things wrong in this world; people die in wars, go hungry, live in poverty -- and christians want to keep gay people from committing to each other in a public bond of love? where are the priorities here? it's certainly not what jesus was concerned with.

Fly Divine, I fear you are not vilified nearly enough.

However, as the required level of ridicule of the quaint
and grossly irrelevant (your beliefs) reaches critical mass,
I will attempt to answer your question why in a way you
can understand in your current state.

Say for example you believed in an religious fiction which
you eagerly reject--say classic Norse faith--then you would
believe your "blood purity" determines your salvation.

Rather, because you believe the modern Xian mythology,
you believe the "blood of J*sus" determines your salvation.

Likewise, if you were of the faith, you might be the closest
thing to a priestly person since the Volvas were woman.
Rather because you're practicing the Xian 'sun-g-d" system,
you consider 'women' under men and among the reasons
for 'original sin'.

Now, in the same way these Norse ideas are idiotic and
perhaps dangerous to you from your mythic perspective...

...your views are to those with other perspectives and more
so, those with rational perspectives of agnosticism/atheism.

Warmly,

Paulie Sabol

Separation of church and state mean anything to you? Some of us are tired of the Bible in our government.

If you take GOD out of the GAY marriage debate there is nothing left to debate. Taking rights is wrong. Excluding a segment of the population is wrong. How would you like to be told you can't marry the one you love? What gave you the right to take away another citizen's happiness?

Above all: How does two people in love getting married hurt you at ALL?

Fly Divine,

The censors here at HuffingtonPost deleted my answer to you
to help you understand why you receive and even deserve so
much scorn and vilification.

While it was not at all "course" or "argumentative" it was deleted
because there are people who act as if religious belief needs
to be protected

..rather than people protected from religious belief.

So if you get to read this and it is not deleted and want the first
answer where I made reference to the Norse mythology, email
me at pauliesabol.combol.com

Warmly,

Paulie Sabol

Some folks think Jesus lives in their heart, but they should be advised to keep Him there quietly, because the minute they open their mouths, it becomes apparent that He's not really there at all.

Well all I can say is, I can stick it wherever I want with your adult permission of course and I don't need a man who wears make-up or lipstick and who's a who's a Jehova's Witness to boot (LOL) telling me about how to live my life. Besides, Jehova's Witnesses are not allowed to dance! How does that figure into the royal life of this Prince? All these religious freaks. Stay out of my bedroom!

He's not tekking anyone how to live. He just simply putelling you how he lives. He is not tryying to tell anyone how to live. That's not wahast I got from this interview. Everyone does not agree with same sex marriage and should not be made to feel like something is wrong with them because they don't agree with it. He has principles and he sticks to them. And that is why his music has changed and he has changed.

God is not everywhere, God is being removed from the courts, the money, the politics, the schools, the doctors office. This is why the world is so Kaotic...the morals of this world has almost been completed removed and anything goes.

WHAT THE HELL is going on. You can call it the coming of the end of the world or you can call it whatever you want to call it.

But, this won't last long....Kaos never does.
