Many of us "knew" the Bush years were going to be bad, the war in Iraq was going to be a disaster, and supply side economics was going to prove to be hogwash. I guess that makes us Nostradamuses-or just smart progressives.

Wow. What a lot of closed minds! As someone trained in science I know that science depends on measuring changes. You have to know what to measure and have the instruments to measure it. Remaining open to possibility and recognizing the limitations of science are important qualities that are too often absent in many scientists. There is so much that we don't understand about the world and ourselves. Closed minds will not expand our understanding.

This is really bad news.

First, the financial crisis and now we're falling behind in "real" science.

Paging Sister Sarah and Joe the Plumber to restore our country's inttellectual primacy!!!

That Lord Drayson, he comes to play. He does have a doctorate in robotics. But, more importantly, he is Tony Blair's big friend.

As a result of his qualifications, he was made a lord and then the UK defence procurement minister. Oh, and he happened to give New Labour more than a million pounds.

Another noteworthy line in his resume: Lord Drayson ran a company which sold faulty TB vaccines and kept quiet it under wraps for almost two years, risking the health of thousands of people.

What a kidder.

What a novel thought to have an open minded person representing the most closed minded profession in the world! I hope he gets up their noses big time!

A similar admission won Al Gore a Nobel Prize and an Oscar. It also made him a very wealthy man.

How could anyone have predicted the storm?
