I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Bill O'Reilly is scared. As a daring crusader on the side of "traditional America" in the war against "secular progressives," O'Reilly fears that the "far left" will push President-elect Obama to embrace their values. As an example of the horrors that would befall us if this were to happen, O'Reilly offers up a surreal pseudo-documentary of San Francisco. O'Reilly sends producer Jesse Waters, whose sole journalistic value seems to be his utter lack of shame at chasing after and ambushing anyone O'Reilly points his finger at, to San Francisco because it represents 'far left government' at work.

Watching this video, one would think that ninety percent of San Francisco's population are either homeless, addicted to drugs, prostitutes, crazy, or some mix of all these. The video is an unbelievable smear on a great American city. The only thing worse than the video's message is the production value. After showing the video, O'Reilly interviews Waters for insight into how San Franciscans can live in such moral and physical squalor. Waters basically says the citizens of Frisco have accepted, and adjusted to, the fact their city is a hell hole. Actually, the city is so beyond the pale that O'Reilly once said he wouldn't mind if Al Qaida attacked the city. Watch and judge for yourself.

O'reilly is projecting his inner ugliness outward.
Eyes are a window to the soul.
But windows work both ways.
Just my 2 cents on why Bill-O seems to find ugliness, fear and hatred everywhere he looks.
Even in the most beautiful places.

Thanks Bill O'Reilly for your amazingly shallow and sensationalistic piece on the most beautiful city in America. Poor Jesse Waters has clearly never left Westchester for longer than a family trip to Central Park and the zoo. I could see how sending him to the Tenderloin district (known shithole of SF) could frighten a little boy like him. However, if you let him venture farther than a six block radius in the heart of downtown he would have seen beautiful Mission Dolores and the adjoining Park, the character and history of Haight-Ashbury, the gorgeous views of Pacific Heights, and Crissy Field with her peaceful walks and views of te Golden Gate. And you may be surprised to hear that homeless people do not live on every corner of this city and when the residents of this town encounter them, we don't cower in fear. We are progressive enough to understand that these are people down on their luck, most of them Veterans , by the way, who are trying to get by, not hurt any of us. So the next time you come to San Francisco, send a guy who hasn't just graduated from high school and has had some worldly experience. We'll welcome him with open arms.

If we have Bill O'Reilly that freaked out by us, then my opinion is that we're doing just fine.

Watching this video made me a little sad to be moving away next year.

WOW. Bill O'Reilly basically found the most cracked-out individuals he possibly could, filmed them, and posted this video. I've lived in San Francisco my entire life and in all honest: the homeless are relatively harmless, Dolores Park (where he filmed the majority of the park scenes) is actually a very nice and safe place to spend a sunny afternoon or chilly evening, and the homeless rarely frequent the Presidio because the park police chase off any and all trespassers the government property. Bill O'Reilly is worried that the leftists will strongly influence the federal government. I think he needs to reevaluate these past eight years and decide whether or not having strongly right leadership is a good thing.

The Presidio is Federal Property not controlled by San Francisco, it's controlled by the federal Government!

What about The Bronx, Bed-Stuy. Try L.A. on a warm day around Echo park and Hope Street.
Santa Ana in Orange county. Santa Monica. etc..........

You missed the point... it's about values. those other places you mentioned are also bad and LA is worse than San Franfreako for sure... Orange County though, no, different values.

You're not the only one who has values. I'm fiercely proud of my San Francisco values.

The OC is an open sewer. You just need to look a little harder. According to the FBI and interpol it is a major distribution point in the US for enslaved girls. I wonder what values the OC is using to justify sexual slavery.

Maybe I missed something.

It's only libel if the victim cares. I really doubt anyone in SF does. I sure don't.

Most of us agree that his characterization of San Francisco was comical and misguided, but what is really odd to me is that he trotted this out as a bogey-man to scare his viewers that this is what Obama has in mind for America.

Here is what I don't understand about that.

San Francisco is a MODEL American city.

1) San Fransisco is a hot bed of competition and capitalism. I though both of those things made Bill hot. Between restaurant competition and tech industries, I think it stands as a model of Laissez-faire.
2) The area is known throughout for being a hot bed of innovation. Where do you think of when you hear innovation? Sorry, it isn't New York, Chicago, or DC. It sure as heck isn't Rapid City or Topeka.
3) San Francisco is a very old (read, steeped in history) city. It is more "American" than Oklahoma City
4) San Francisco is a diverse city (or are we only a melting pot when Europeans need to justify their existence to Native people)?

...so if innovation, diversity, wealth, competition, and capitalism are what Obama plans to "turn" America into...what is it we are afraid of again?

Please cite your evidence that San Francisco is "in decline".

I'm glad bill o hates San Francisco. I think he is threatened by what SF stands for. I was born in SF, live in SF and I love it!

i've lived in the bay area for most of my life (i'm 45) and sf hasn't changed much. always a lot of homeless in california because of the moderate climate. personally, i feel quite safe in the city (except for the occasional thought of the looming "big one")...if bill o's piece keeps his type out of the city (and out of california), then that's fine by me...hope it scares some of the midwesterners back to their provincial towns too - the influx of interstate immigration (1980 onward) has ruined california.

california should secede from the union and quit supporting/propping up the remaining 49 states and the likes of those who mock the left coast. (california has something like the 7th largest economy in the WORLD and really doesn't need the rest of the country).

I don't label myself as a liberal, but I tend to think that the nicest places tend to be considered "liberal". The 2 most interesting places I have ever been were Santa Fe & San Francisco.

I been there, seen that, lived through it and boy, do I miss it.

Obviously Billo thinks this is the very definition of hell, which is alright by me. I don't share Billo's taste in anything and he can stay behind the gated hell he chooses to live in. But, of course, what this documentary missed was the fact that the homeless are drawn to the Greater San Francisco Bay Area because of the willingness of so many good folks in the Bay area to do something for society's rejects. This is not a flaw, this is what happens when true compassion gets to the better nature you possess. It's that "Saint Francis" thing and either you get it or you don't.

I'm glad you brought that up. Seems some people on this thread think that Rudy Guliani is a hero because he "solved" NYC's homeless problem. He didn't solve anything; he merely displaced the homeless to another location. They're still homeless.
