I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Bill O'Reilly is scared. As a daring crusader on the side of "traditional America" in the war against "secular progressives," O'Reilly fears that the "far left" will push President-elect Obama to embrace their values. As an example of the horrors that would befall us if this were to happen, O'Reilly offers up a surreal pseudo-documentary of San Francisco. O'Reilly sends producer Jesse Waters, whose sole journalistic value seems to be his utter lack of shame at chasing after and ambushing anyone O'Reilly points his finger at, to San Francisco because it represents 'far left government' at work.

Watching this video, one would think that ninety percent of San Francisco's population are either homeless, addicted to drugs, prostitutes, crazy, or some mix of all these. The video is an unbelievable smear on a great American city. The only thing worse than the video's message is the production value. After showing the video, O'Reilly interviews Waters for insight into how San Franciscans can live in such moral and physical squalor. Waters basically says the citizens of Frisco have accepted, and adjusted to, the fact their city is a hell hole. Actually, the city is so beyond the pale that O'Reilly once said he wouldn't mind if Al Qaida attacked the city. Watch and judge for yourself.

By "dark underbelly" are you referring to black people, or poor people?

O'Reilly must also be appalled by the city in which he makes his living: New York. The homeless are rampant, and 85% of them are clearly dangerously mentally ill. People smoke marijuana openly and usually without reproach. After dark, tranny prostitutes and young homosexuals frequent the Meatpacking District and the westside piers. There are gay bars and strip clubs. And yet, O'Reilly comes to NYC everyday to spew his nonsensical venom, fingerpoint, and ride around in his limo. Every large city has undesirable areas. So what? I can't imagine living anywhere other than NYC because it's AWESOME. I am sure San Francisco residents feel the same way about their beautiful city.

Oh, poor California.
First it's go after the gays. Now it's go after American cities. I love SF!!!! It's an Americn Icon all over the world. I bet these guys think the two great SF earthquakes were Gods revenge. San Fransisco has always had a reputation. Always.... since it was founded with the Barbary Coast. They're proud of it's bohemian life and I hope it never loses it. How boring it would be!

The San Fransisco vs Bill O'Reilly/other wingnuts battle is one of the main reasons why the Republicans are losing the generational battle in America.

I hope Bill O'Reilly and other wingnuts continue this battle that they started, for in the long run it will greatly advance the "social progressive" cause.

Traditional America is what supports all the Gentleman's Clubs, Adult book and Video Stores in every urban area (and some "bedroom" communities), not to mention all the tawdry double-entendre TV shows that pimp out a constants stream of sex jokes, innuendo and general depravity way beyond what you will find in San Francisco.
Besides which, the San Francisco Bay Area has always been "secular Far-Left". Even before Michael Douglas and Karl Malden. The invasion of Democrats in Washington isn't going to increase or decrease it.
I wish just once some guest would put O'Reilly on the spot and ask him if he thinks HE is Far Right. Same with Limbaugh.

It is amazing that a guy who paid millions to avoid a sexual harassment lawsuit that would demonstrate what a pervert he is, having the nerve to always call others out on moral issues. Typical of the right. You only have to look at the areas of the country where the facts bear this out.

Utterly ludicrous. I lived in SF for 4 years and loved every minute of it! It is one of the most amazing cities in the world. Yes, there are homeless people and yes, they can be aggressive. Yes, they are everywhere. Big deal- to many it's considered "Urban Camping" (admittedly it does wear you down after awhile and turns part of your heart cold and is a REAL problem... but...). Maybe they wouldn't all be there if mid-western cities didn't give their homeless one-way bus tickets to CA just to get rid of them. The weather in CA is great so if you were homeless and had/ wanted to sleep outside, where would you want to be? And yes, people have more freedom in SF than anywhere else in America- we should be PROUD of that- land of the free anyone? And every city (and small towns too) has porn shops and pot-smokers. But all of this is academic.

Here is the main reason this "ducumentary" should be ignored: The underlying logic is deeply flawed as evidenced by Billo saying [Every city has a Ternderloin-like district. In SF it's North Beach.] How stupid can you be? The Tenderloin IS IN San Francisco and North Beach is the "Little Italy" section of the city that is happening and alive. Idiot.

Before anyone says "oh that's an exaggeration"... wellll.. to be fair... Have you been to San Fran? It actually is pretty much the "freak" capital (not that I see anyone that way but I can imagine how it must look to conservatives) of the U.S. That said... isn't that a credit to SF's willingness to accept people of all types? "Oh my gosh, they aren't ARRESTING people for smoking marijuana? OH NOES! People aren't as AFRAID of the homeless as sheltered, middle-class yuppies usually are? What? They're TOLERANT of transgendered people? *gasp*" etc etc etc...

Predictably, they're treating tolerance of others' lifestyles like it's a bad thing. Encouraging and exploiting that regressive conservative fear that if you become too tolerant, America will become Gammorah!! Of courese I'm not standing up for tolerance of crime or cruelty or anything, but of peoples' lifestyles? Of course they feign to have Christian motivations for these fears and prejudices, but they're conveniently ignoring the whole "judge not" thing. But these conservatives would rather hold on to Old Testament style intolerance, forgetting the love, acceptence, and forgiveness of the Gospels, which had a much more Liberal, accepting message, if one chooses to actually follow it.

Ugh.

Seems to me that San Fransico lives up to the word and meaning of the US constitution. So Bill and Fox slam the city for its embracing nature with regards to constituionality!

I go to these two cities every year. I like New York much more, and for some of the reasons mentioned in this article.

I hope this video keeps moronic, bigoted and narrow-minded people like Bill O'Reilly from coming to my beautiful, progressive, inclusive, (though expensive!) city. Long live the great people of San Francisco.

One thing I've noticed traveling, especially through the South is that there is nothing but country music and gospel on the radio...and then about 100 billboards for nude/gentlemen's clubs all over. Going through Atlanta one night I stumbled onto an avenue with 100s of prostitutes and men from all over trolling the streets. I hadn't seen anything like that since I'd left NYC in the 70s. This is the two-faces of every Red state I've ever gone through. As stated by other posters, there are seedy areas in every city, state and county. Here in western MA there is a topless joint out in the middle of farm country less than 1/2 a mile from a major university. Bill O'Reilly must think his viewers never travel further than their front doors!

Having travelled through the South myself, I was astonished to see religious billboards everywhere, Gospel and Country music on nearly every station, to then come across multiple advertisements for a gigantic "Topless Truck Stop." Wow. What can you say? Bill-O needs to send his producer to the South for a Mock-u-mentary.

Bill was just reporting on the homeless people and the pot houses that's all. If they didn't have a problem there would not be a story.

Regarding the homelessness, Washington DC has the same problem. Does this make Washington a liberal city?
