Hannity Concerts

So, it's come to my attention that Sean Hannity is sponsoring a series of "Freedom Concerts," tickets for which would make "perfect Christmas gifts," apparently, for everyone on your Christmas list of whom you have a low opinion. Billy Ray Cyrus will headline these events, and will be supported by country music legends The Charlie Daniels Band, Christian-contemporary performer Michael W. Smith, sun-ripened beef jerky husk Lee Greenwood, and Oliver North, who will, I guess, be playing a Moog accompaniment to "the Whitey tape." The concerts are in support of...freedom? I guess? Though probably the "supplies are limited some restrictions apply void where prohibited (cf. Prop 8 for further details)" brand of "freedom."

Naturally, one wonders about whether Billy Ray Cyrus' decision to join up on this tour might negatively impact the career of daughter Miley Cyrus, who's more positioned as a global brand, and who produces spastic and apolitical pop marm. Might Billy Ray's actions alienate a significant portion of Miley's fanbase? The answer is: probably not! After all, Miley's tween audience probably couldn't care less about Sean Hannity, and their parents, who may care, have basically established themselves as ineffectual money-fonts who live to get pushed around by their children anyway -- hence the existence of Miley Cyrus.

Anyway, based upon the sorts of people Hannity pals around with, we can all be thankful that, at the very least, Prussian Blue won't be opening.

Hannah Montana invites Sasha and Malia to appear on her show and her Dad is hanging out with Sean Hannity....does that seem odd to anybody else??

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 04:58 PM on 11/18/2008

No. It's called a silent but not so subtle message. You two may be fans of ours; but we're not fans of your dad. Okay...

Or does Billy Ray not watch Hannity ... yeah, right...

The Obamas need to keep their girls far away from that set.

I was forced to work front row security at a Billy Ray concert back when he had a mullet. It was painful...... painful. The worst concert I had to work and I did that for five years and saw many performers.

Well this is just fantastic. Great job, HuffPo. No, that's cool. Don't research your stories before you print them. I'm sure THAT won't come back to haunt you. I can see the Drudge Headline tomorrow already :

"HUFFINGTON POST MOCKS BILLY RAY CYRUS FOR PERFORMING FREE OF CHARGE AT A BENEFIT CONCERT FOR THE CHILDREN OF DEAD SOLDIERS"

Yeesh.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 04:46 PM on 11/18/2008

There are better ways to show your support of soldiers and their families than endorsing an anti-American nutcase like Hannity.

You're right. There are.

But Billy Ray Cyrus hasn't endorsed Hannity or his views, to my knowledge. Remember how we all said that we shouldn't judge Obama for serving on the same educational board as Bill Ayers, because at the time he was only trying to do something good for his community, he wasn't trying to endorse Ayers's transgressions? Well then why should we mock Billy Ray when obviously he had only selfless good intentions for this concert? We have no idea what his association, if any, is with Hannity.

Mocking someone for doing a charitable concert for free is just in extremely poor taste. And them not even MENTIONING that this was a charitable concert that Cyrus did for free is inexcusable. There is no excuse for this story.

Sure, instead of spending the money for gas to the concert, parking, and concessions. Simply send your money to a fund for soldiers and their families. P.S. Sean Hannity is married right? So why does'nt he wear a wedding ring on his show? Should'nt he show respect for the sanctity of MARRIAGE!

I did like Billy Ray cyrus, but that is a thing of the past now. anyone who can support sean Hannity is no friend of mind, and I am quite sure his daughters career is probably on the low road

I don't like Billy Ray, or Hannity, or country music.

However, 100% of the proceeds from this concert go to an educational scholarship fund for children of killed or wounded soldiers. Cyrus is participating in this concert for no compensation.

What exactly about this is disappointing behavior?

Wow, this is the first time Hannity has ever done anything good for his country. Wanna bet it's the last time too?

Let's get this straight.

You scream from the rooftops that "we" must send our soldiers (but not Sean or Billy Ray, of course) to die for a blizzard of lies in Iraq, and then give a concert to promote yourself, and benefit some of their now fatherless or motherless children, and that makes it all ok with you, pilgrim?

Isn't that the truth. It is beyond me how someone can rant on and on about the same thing that makes no sense. He's like a little spoiled child. Since I don't watch FOX, it is very clear I won't be at his "nonsensical" tour.

Isn't if funny that people like Hannity, Rush, Glen Beck, and other loud mouths who are always preaching Patriotism and freedom never join the military. They never do any of the heavy lifting but are always talking the loudest. Some of the very people they are against are on the front lines battle for their rights to be idiots.

Hold the condemnation, because HuffPo did a HORRIBLE job reporting this story.

100% of the proceeds from these Freedom concerts go to the Freedom Alliance Scholarship Fund, which is an educational scholarship foundation for the children of dead or grieviously wounded soldiers. Liberal and conservative and moderate soldier families alike benefit from these concerts, and all performers participate for no compensation.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 04:16 PM on 11/18/2008

And 50% of the fund is spent on overhead.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 06:04 PM on 11/18/2008

Plus, all they do is complain. They NEVER offer any solutions. If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem.

"Freedom Concerts"

Let's see... to benefit the awareness of freedoms that we don't have?

Or to create awareness of the freedoms that have been taken away, by the bush administration?

Is he saying this is a celebration of freedom, but no gays or liberals need attend?

The reason they are called Freedom Concerts is because 100% of proceeds go to the Freedom Alliance Scholarship Fund, which provides educational scholarships to children of soldiers killed or grieviously injured in battle.
