Chuck Norris

Huckabee-supporting martial artist Chuck Norris has written his latest column for townhall.com on the passage of Prop 8 in California, calling demonstrations in its wake "anarchy." The article, entitled "If Democracy Doesn't Work, Try Anarchy," ends with the following:

The truth is that the great majority of Prop. 8 advocates are not bigots or hatemongers. They are American citizens who are following 5,000 years of human history and the belief of every major people and religion: Marriage is a sacred union between a man and a woman. Their pro-Prop. 8 votes weren't intended to deprive any group of its rights; they were safeguarding their honest convictions regarding the boundaries of marriage.

On Nov. 4, the pro-gay community obviously was flabbergasted that a state that generally leans left actually voted right when it came to holy matrimony. But that's exactly what happened; the majority of Californians -- red, yellow, black and white -- voted to define the margins of marriage as being between one man and one woman. California is the 30th state in our union to amend its constitution in doing so, joining Florida and Arizona in this election. Like it or not, it's the law now. The people have spoken.

What a shame. It's a good thing I never liked his movies.

I watch a debate between Norris and I forget who on Larry King, prior to the election, I believe this man is frecken nuts, he completely lost it and keep on filibustering, he would not shut up and listen. Norris is so far out there, that he doesn't need a rocket. He's acting sucks to.

Well, ain't that a kick in the head? Why does he get any currency on this site or any other?
When did this jock become the intellectual voice of the right? Oh . . . never mind, I just answered my
own question: they're anti-intellectuals then aren't they?

I understand what Chuck is saying with regard to the ancient teachings of religion. Ever since Prop was defeated, this issue has become like the abortion issue, never ending and everybody has an opinion.

Even a cursory review of "5000 years of human history" will show that marriage has been defined in many other ways than between one man and one woman. Think of a new argument.

Exactly my friend..... By the way...Marriage didn't exist in Jesus time (if you believe in Jesus) . The Bible was written by people who believe that the world is flat so how can you say that the contributors knew everything there is to know about life and its meaning. Please explain .

Believe what you want to believe but STAY OUT OF MY LIFE with your religious crap. The human intellect is a lot smarter then it was 2,000 years ago. GET REAL FOLKS

Even though I share your “stay out of my life” sentiment, marriage did exist in ancient Roman times, so I think your reference to the time of Jesus would be wrong.

It did exist. Christianity has been alive and well for over thousands of years and "man and wife" are in the Bible, an ancient book.

Chuck Norris is a bigot and should mind his own business. He has no idea what anarchy is and even less about human history. Demonstrating is as American as "Apple Pie." Plain and simple Chuck is a homophobe. He has a right to his opinion but not the right to feel his opinion should deny people their rights.

Anyone who watched Chuck on LKL during the campaign saw the seething anger that rules this man. Marriage has been defined and redefined almost as many times as the old testament. When it comes to state law, marriage is simply a legal contract; that's why there's no fault divorce; that's why it always comes down to money and property - that's how marriage started: Arranged marriages were the norm for many many decades, even centuries. It still is in some places where marrying outside of your 'group' is frowned upon (see: India). Chuck's problem is that he's homophobic still, he has a problem accepting that homosexuals are people; they're human beings who love and pay taxes and are entitled to equal rights under the law. At least in America they are...Chuck Norris needs anger management - badly...as well as some compassion and humanity. And stop taking testosterone, dude.

Let's call for reason, not succumb to emotionalism.

People of good will can find paths to peaceful resolution.

Those who wage war are not interested in peace, apparently.

It's an emotional issue. We tried the Courts (and will again), the peaceful resolution, and reasoning with people. What's left - Civil disobedience!! Viva La Revolution.

Your post makes no sense! These links are all to a wing nuts who thrive on hate. What's the point? That they're nuts? We know that. Like Chuck they're all rich white folks. What is it that they are so angry about? This country has given them everything. Why can't they enjoy their wealth? What flaw in their person drives that hate? I just don't get it.

Is it true that Prop 8's definition of marriage as "between a man and a woman" is not specific enough about which man and which woman, so it permits incestuous marriages in California?

What is the f.r.e.a.k.i.n.g. problem, heterosexuals are marrying numerous times and for all the wrong reasons in some cases; where are all the bible toting lovers then calling it a sin and that it is wrong. They're all a bunch of hypocrites.

There are those who have said Dr. Kings marches created unrest and anarchy.

Proposition 8 was/is designed to deprive citizens of rights basic to the human experience.
Just as Dr. Kings views have been accepted and affirmed in our society, so to will, eventually, courts affirm equal rights of marriage and parenthood between all persons.

A law which deprives citizens of basic rights is not a law.

Mr. Norris has always held extreme and largely uniformed views.

Same sex "marriage" is NOT a right. No matter how many times you may claim it is a right the legal FACTS say otherwise.

42 states have some sort of law making same sex marriage illegal. Requests to review the constitutionality of same sex "marriage" bans have been appealed to the US Supreme Court. In EVERY case the US Supreme Court has refused to hear arguments which uphold the lower court rulings.

Until the US Supreme court rules otherwise it is not a right no matter what you may say.
