I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Clinton

Over at the Weekly Standard, McCain campaign blogger Michael Goldfarb explains why Republicans should be cheered by the prospect of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton:

Clinton flipped on the war, but as the nomination slipped out of her reach last spring she spoke of the threats this country faces, and of the prescriptions offered by Obama, in language that would warm the hearts of neoconservatives (if we had them). She threatened to "obliterate" Iran in response to unprovoked aggression against Israel, she spoke of unconditional meetings with the leaders of rogue states as "irresponsible and, frankly, naive," and she castigated Obama's transparent saber-rattling on Pakistan ("last summer [Obama] basically threatened to bomb Pakistan, which I don't think was a particularly wise position to take."). On matters of diplomacy, Clinton's views are not so different from those held by John McCain and most Republicans -- and they are certainly well to the right of Obama.

Of course, if Clinton takes the job one expects she'll be loyal to her new boss. Though it would be extremely entertaining, we probably wouldn't see Madame Secretary working to undermine an Obama administration with recalcitrance and rogue diplomacy. But then Colin Powell was a dutiful soldier while inside the Bush administration and that still didn't prevent him from becoming a foil for the administration's opponents. It's not difficult to imagine Clinton performing a similar service for Republicans. She could be held up as the very model of a responsible Democrat, forced against her better judgment to partake in a series of reckless diplomatic escapades pursued by a more ideological president.

Clinton would be a fine Secretary of State, and she is likely to be a nuisance to Obama whether she is inside or outside of his administration, but as our top diplomat she could reprise a role that made Powell a kingmaker in this year's election. And perhaps she could even present the case for war with Iran to an insubordinate United Nations in the event that Obama's personal diplomacy somehow fails to deter the mullahs from their present course.

The Staffer "crowed" at the idea of Clinton in the Cabinet? Ha! How could they have heard a crowing with all the jackasses in that very same staff "braying" when Palin was selected. Their judgement on what is or isn't a good selection in governing is disputable to say the least.

Obama is no pushover. HRC can do the job. If HRC doesn't accept Obama's agenda, she doesn't get the job. What's so hard to understand about that? If HRC doesn't tow the Obama line as SoS, she gets sacked. Simple as that.

Exacly what folks seem to forget that Obama is not like McCain and Clinton. His organization in the form of his campaign REFLECTS him. Just like his administration will reflect him. Thats what a leader does he sets the TONE from the top. Do you remember when he said that anyone in his campagin who went after Palin's daughter on the pregnancy would be fired. Did anyone in his campaign go after her NO. Thats what a leader does. He sets the tone. Hilary isnt going to be practicing her own Foreign Policy thats in contradiction to him if she does she will be FIRED.

Ask yourselves, if McCain won what do you think the chances are that he'd pick Hillary as SoS? Slim to none. What do you think the chances are that McCain wouldn't have kept on most if not ALL of Bush' cronies considering he had Bush' cronies running his campaign and most if not all the Bush' lobbyists also involved with McCain's campaign. And, I'll say it again, Obama considering Hillary for this position didn't just come to him AFTER he won. I'd bet my first born it had more to do when she lost the nomination and a somewhat reluctance to endorse Obama sooner rather than later, had more to do with Obama deciding whether right THEN and THERE to guarantee her she'd be made SoS. Yet, all this makes for great lead-in stories on the news for the last week, doesn't it?

What I will give thanks for this Thanksgiving.

1) Barack Obama won the Presidency.

2) John McCain DIDN'T win the Presidency.

3) Sarah Palin didn't win the Vice Presidency.

4) Arnold Schwarzenegger is constitutionally barred from running for President.

5) Two more months, only two more months!

This don't sound like "Change I can believe in." Why keep dealing with the Clintons? I thought Obama was all about "Change", but it starting to look like a "Clinton third term." This is NOT why I voted for Obama, i voted for him because i thought he would be done with this same group from central casting. It seems like he has most of the same players form Bills old dayz. C'mon Obama, you're starting to disappoint me already.

I think the old adage is "keep your friends close and your enemies closer". Lincoln did it, and Obama seems to be emulating him.

Senator Clinton was great on knowing what the hell is going on. That's why she's followed Bush's lead on foreign policy.

Obama's move re: Secretary of State is far more like Lincoln and NOTHING like Clinton.

One NYT writer said that his move was, in fact, very "un-Clintonian". And smart.

HRC has yet to do anything at her present job other than show up and cash her paycheck. As a New Yorker, I partially welcome her rise to SecState. It means she is ultimately accountable for actual work and can be fired if she messes up. (Although, regrettably, Rice's precedent of ignoring "Bin Laden determined to attack within U.S." makes that unlikely... and "messing up" will most likely cost US lives,) If she stays in the senate, she'll be there a long time simply based on name recognition.

HUH???....She was National Security Advisor, the NSA has access to the NIE, PDB and SOS. Just another complicit court jester in the service of King George and the Bush Crime Family.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:24 PM on 11/18/2008

No, my dear, she was not. She was the National Security Adviser. In that position she was closer to the frontline, so to speak, than she would have been as SoS. This is the woman who lied through her teeth to Congress saying no one could have imagined aircraft being employed as weapons. No one save spy novelists and the Pentagon which conducted exercises with that precise scenario. She came off as if she were playing Sargent Schulz in blackface. "I hear nozzing! I seenozzing!"

same here, and lets face it, the Clintons aren't going anywhere for a long time. Might as well put the talents they have to use. It's all hands on deck to repair our country.
