Paula Zahn To Play Cello At Carnegie Hall
Paula Zahn spent the election cycle on the sidelines for the first time in three decades. That was an unusual position for a journalist who said she's got a news gene embedded in her soul.
"I got to be a viewer for the first time in many years," Zahn told the Daily News. "It's an entirely different experience. When you're in the trenches and covering the daily campaign, you're privy to information you don't have on the sidelines."
The experience, she said, gave her a "healthy perspective" on what it's like to be a viewer and to have to wade through the daily dose of contradictory messages from both sides.
It's not that Zahn has been away from the business completely, but her visibility on TV in the past year has been diminished since she left CNN in July 2007. Since then, she has done a retirement special for PBS and she has a cancer series for PBS on the way.
Her visibility increased a bit recently when Zahn was named co-host of WNET/ Ch. 13's "Sunday Arts," where she's paired with Philippe de Montebello on the weekly look at arts and culture. The pair replaced Ch. 13 President Neal Shapiro, who had been host and, as Zahn said, fired himself.
"Neal has always known of my longtime interest in the arts," said Zahn, an accomplished cellist, who will play Carnegie Hall on Dec. 2 with the Sejong Soloists
