Stevens: "I Wouldn't Wish What I'm Going Through On Anyone"

The Politico reports:

Sen. Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) ducked out of a GOP conference meeting briefly and talked with reporters waiting outside. He said that he has not been asked to make any remarks and appeared confident and upbeat, flashing a smile. The image conflicted with his dour comments to the gathered reporters.

"I wouldn't wish what I'm going through on anyone--my worst enemy," he said. Asked if it hurt to go through today's ordeal on his birthday, he responded, "Hurt? I haven't had a night's sleep now for almost four months, alright? I went home even during the trial and I came to the senate [on] nights after the trial. I've been living about three different lives and it's hard to even answer your questions properly, but I'm doing my best."

In the meantime, would he be seeking a pardon from President Bush?

"No, no, no," he said.

Walking back into the Mansfield room to join his colleagues, a reporter wished him a happy birthday.

"I hope you have a better one than me," replied Stevens.

Stevens can at least take comfort in the fact that his fellow Republicans plan to put off a vote on whether he should be expelled from the caucus. Their reason: if Stevens loses his reelection bid, they won't have to make the decision.

The clown is not even glad that he is out there still enjoying his freedom. I bet if I were to shop-lift an ink pen from a dollar store, I would be locked up immediately after arrest. Guess what Teddy boy..., I would like to go through what you are going through in exchange for some of them $$$$$ millions you received from your corrupt friends in exchange for some legislative favors and the bridge to nowhere. You're not a crook, right?

Good Lord, this man of privilege, even while being on trial, is whining and moaning about his life? Maybe he should have thought about that before stealing from the Government. He is upset because he was caught and now may not be able to get what he wants. What a cowardly thing to say. What a selfish individual. He should be asking for forgiveness rather than bemoaning his situation.

Consequences seem to run less enjoyable than the short lived thrill of receiving bribes...oops! I mean gifts....oops I mean....letting people store items in your house and having hundreds of thousands of dollars of free construction work being done on your house without your knowledge just 'cause.

Well, Teddy can go to his cabin for a little while, sit on the upper deck and sip a single malt scotch and wonder if the view is as good at the federal pen he's going to, is anywhere as nice as this. In a short while, he can ask himself, was that a moose that just walked across the yard? No, that was just a correctional officer.

Strange thought-- I had wished it on him-- so if my wishes are coming true there are a few other people that are going to be in this purgatory too-- oh I know better purgatory is a hell of ones own making and I am afraid to admit but he did it on his own and I didn't have anything to do with his-- I guess I am working on mine. I am afraid that laughing at his undoing will earn me something other than this moment of joy.
