The Politico reports:

Sen. Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) ducked out of a GOP conference meeting briefly and talked with reporters waiting outside. He said that he has not been asked to make any remarks and appeared confident and upbeat, flashing a smile. The image conflicted with his dour comments to the gathered reporters.

"I wouldn't wish what I'm going through on anyone--my worst enemy," he said. Asked if it hurt to go through today's ordeal on his birthday, he responded, "Hurt? I haven't had a night's sleep now for almost four months, alright? I went home even during the trial and I came to the senate [on] nights after the trial. I've been living about three different lives and it's hard to even answer your questions properly, but I'm doing my best."

...

In the meantime, would he be seeking a pardon from President Bush?

"No, no, no," he said.

Walking back into the Mansfield room to join his colleagues, a reporter wished him a happy birthday.

"I hope you have a better one than me," replied Stevens.

Stevens can at least take comfort in the fact that his fellow Republicans plan to put off a vote on whether he should be expelled from the caucus. Their reason: if Stevens loses his reelection bid, they won't have to make the decision.

"I wouldn't wish what I'm going through on anyone--my worst enemy,"

...should thought about that sooner, Senator.

It is time for Ted to go. He is 84 years old. Time to retire. It is time for Ted to get off the public dole. They should sentence him to house arrest in Alaska. Take advantage of the work he had done on his house.

DRAFT TED 2009!

With all this bipartisanship the DLC is trying to sell us, we need to bring Stevens into our "Big Tent"

We dont want to hold any grudges against him.

He's a convicted felon? Common that was in the past. He's good at fighting Demcrats too so I guess we should give him a high level chairmanship.

Seriously, after what happened today with Lieberman, the base could not be any more crushed.

You know what I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy? A snarky politician deciding that millions of tax dollars are better spent on a useless bridge in Alaska than on finding your dead grandmother's body after a devastating hurricane. Karma works in politics sometimes. Shameless.

Amend the US Constitution to prohibit convicted felons from marrying.
Then *maybe* I'll feel something other than glee that this thief and liar has been brought to justice (although seemingly really, really slowly).

Umm, why exactly?

I would rather change it that convicted felons cannot be in public office!

Lets recap the last 2 months, the most tenured republican senator, 84 years old, convicted felon who knows he will be ousted from the senate if returns still won't resign.

Hey Sarah, I thought you were a fiscal conservative, how much is this additional ballot counting costing your state.

Here's some advice Ted, concede the election, wait for "W''s pardon and enjoy all the upgrades to your home that you robbed from you're own constituents.

well you know what they say, Ted.

if everybody dumped their baggage in a pile then told our stories about what's in them and how it got there and you could take anyone;s you wanted in trade for yours... you;d be digging for yours back so fast...
translation: maybe you should haver thought about that, what you were packing, and what the rest of us were going through!
but i think you still need more first step work, got it? what is it?

How strange to see Ted Stevens play the role of " tragic victim". Alaskans and the GOP have known Stevens was a crook for decades. They turned a blind eye to his corruption as long as he brought home the bacon. It took a federal grand jury in Washington to finally bring him to account.
