In this Oct. 20, 2008, file photo Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., left, and Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y. greet supporters at the end of a rally in Orlando, Fla. Former President Bill Clinton's globe-trotting business deals and fundraising for his foundation sometimes put his activities abroad at odds with Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, and it could cause complications for her if President-elect Barack Obama considers her to be secretary of state. (AP Photo/John Raoux, File)

CHICAGO — Associates of Hillary Rodham Clinton and her husband say the former first lady is weighing whether to leave the Senate and become secretary of state, believing the job is hers if she wants it.

Obama transition officials say other candidates have been vetted for the job, but the New York senator has emerged as the leading contender and the vetting of former president Bill Clinton has been particularly intense. Associates say Hillary Clinton has been told that Obama wants her to be secretary of state, although accounts differ on how bluntly and directly Obama made the overture. They would speak only on grounds of anonymity because of the private nature of the negotiations.

Hoping to ease concerns about possible conflicts of interest, Bill Clinton has agreed to publicly disclose the names of all donors who have given more than $250 to his presidential library and foundation.

She has star power in her own mind and with women's groups. She has no qualifications for SS.

Also, in her presidential bid, she lost a ton of credibility, accusing Obama of being a talker and not a doer. Why would he want this person in his cabinet? She's divisive and vindictive and look who's tagging along...Bill, with his suitcase full of garbage.

If Obama wants to get things done, it will not be helpful to have the Hillbilly in the back room swinging business deals with foreign countries. Bill is already deep into that. Please. Enough of the Clintons. Look what happened with the Bush family and the Saudis. 3000 dead Americans at the towers. 3000 more dead Americans in Iraq.

I have been as strong a supporter of Obama as anyone here. I still am. However, the three things I value most are freedom of thought, freedom of speech, and freedom of action. There are some posters here whom we all know and like, who supported Obama and still do, and strongly, but they are Independents. I don't know why they are that. I do know that I might become one if it means I can freely believe, and say, that Obama is making a mistake, that I don't agree with something he is doing, and not be ta.rred and fea.thered for it.

As I've said about 8 times now, Obama himself said in his victory speech that we would not always agree with his decisions, and he said in that 30 minute program he did that he would make mistakes. That is good enough for me.

He did NOT go on to say that where we DON'T agree with him, then we don't support him, as some here have said.

Some people around here seem to think that if you so much as question something Obama says or does, you are not a Democrat, you have committed high trea.son, and you might even be a tro//. That sounds like arm-twisting to me. That sounds to me like something that belongs more to ty.ranny than democracy. Obama is a president, not a ty.rant, not a di.ctator, and not a ki.ng.

are you trying to make the move to hyperventilating?

are you saying that disagreeing with you is akin to tyran-ny?

No, Tommy. YOU are trying to label every person who doesn't agree with you on this, as hysterical. Get real. Or ring up Obama and ask him, for Go.d's sake. Ask him if he thinks those who will be advising him against it, and there will be some, are hysterical.

I'll wait.

Well said, Abby, bravo! My thoughts exactly...I couldn't have said it better. Obama is not a "either you're with me or against me" kind of man or politician like so many of the ReTHUGliKKKans. The ReTHUGs absolutely crush any dissent or any outspoken criticisms about their politicians. Speak badly about or disagree publicly with a ReTHUG politician and you'd find yourself thrown under the bus, off the campaign plane, into the void where no one hears from you anymore...like what they did with Carly Fiorina.

We can agree to disagree. I think devoted Obama supporters have certainly "earned" the right to voice our displeasure on a path Obama may take as much as anyone or as any former Clinton supporters.

I am an independent and a long time supporter. I completely disagree with this decision. I hope he proves me wrong for the sake of the country. Will I continue to support him? I will base that decision on results of both this decision and the many others he will make.

I just don't think it took 2 years, 700 million dollars and 50 primaries to get Clinton 2.0 which is what it appears we have.

Right now is the time for voicing disagreement. As Obama himself knows. He will be getting plenty of conflicting advice.

But for pete's sake, watch what you say here on this thread! You will be ea.ten al.ive by the new sheriff and his new deputy.

Just kidding, say what you want, they don't own the site.

Sorta like putting the chicken hawk in charge of the hen house. This is yet one more example of why Hillary should stay in the Senate. We had 8 years of "Watch Bill Weasel" regarding his personal and financial life. Do we really need a Secretary of State whose spouse keeps showing up in the tabloids? Sorry Hillary, it's not you, it's Bill.

Why can't she make her decision already? Don't tell me she had no idea this offer was coming? I hate that she is dragging it out. It confirms all my worst suspicions about her. This woman is no friend of Obama's. I admire him for being so inclusive, but I just feel this woman, while highly intelligent and capable, brings too much drama with her wherever she travels.

I know what you mean. I like her better than Bill, but they are one as husband and wife. When Hilary talks, she just seems disingenuous to me. I don't sense "realness" with her. All I see is a political "front". And, that's disheartening. She's done some good things for civil rights but when she played the race card against Obama, praised the Republican opponent but slammed Obama during her campaign, caused division within the Democratic Party and gave Republicans the ammo to use against Obama, I was through. I can forgive, but I won't forget. JMO

For those who can't seem to stand dissent:

Look, who do you think Obama is listening to right now by way of getting advice, as he decides whether to formally offer Hillary the job? Only those who agree with him? No. He is listening to those who don't agree with him, just as much, if he is wise and I believe he is. He will be listening to counter-arguments, to reasons why not to appoint her.

That is what getting advice is all about.

So what is wrong with people here posting counter-arguments, saying why they think it's a bad idea?

Answer: nothing.

EXACTLY Abby, thank you for stating this so well. Some people, including original Obama supporters, are now forgetting how Obama became P-E. It was due to very passionate supporters like us, even though many of us took a lot of heat or flack from friends, family and co-workers for supporting him, donating to him, believing in him, campaigning for him and finally voting for him.

So yes, Obama supporters have "earned" the right to vent when we don't agree with a choice he is considering. I think that original Obama supporters like me, not Clinton "converts" to Obama, are probably the most vocal and are totally against a Clinton appointment.

I guess we've "earned" the right to vent. (sorry, that sounds so....impudent)
But like you said, you were so passionate about him during the campaign....he didn't steer us wrong. Why would you think he'd steer us wrong now? He's always been two steps ahead and he has impressed us with his foresight.
Just because you don't like Senator Clinton, doesn't mean that she can't or WON'T do the job. I did NOT support her at all during the primaries....but i think she learned some lessons there.
We really don't know what's going on - we only have the media and the internet to tell us. Why don't we give the benefit of the doubt to the man who earned our trust and let him do what he sees is best for the country.

Of course he'll listen to counter-arguments, but in the end it's HIS decision to make...and we need to respect that decision.
Remember, we had 8 years of an egomaniac who never even LISTENED to what his dissidents had to say...he surrounded himself by yes men and daddy substitutes.
We finally have an intelligent, thoughtful POTUS- ELECT - who isn't even POTUS yet and already people are doubting him.
He ran the best campaign EVER, do you think he's just going to leave that at the door and say...ok...i'm gonna wash my hands of everything now.

I wish that were true but experience has taught me that where there's a Clinton drama is sure to follow. Bills dealings are absolutely a conflict of interest - that is a fact. She should be given a domestic post - and Bill can continue to show himself as the a$$ he is proving to be.

When Obama campaigned for change, I don't believe he meant change all the faces in Washington.

You don't need to throw all the experience away just because you want to change things. Changing the tone and changing the way things are done in Washington is possible even with some of the same faces. If you have a strong leader.

I believe Obama is a strong leader.

You guys don't get it at all. Never have. Obama wants the MSM to do his dirty work for him. He wants the MSM to do a Palin on Hil and Bubba. Go nulclear on their history. Dredge up every last item of controversy and make a big deal about each of them. Problem is the MSM is not biting. I've not seen a single investigative piece on the Clintons in the past few days. Maybe you should help by starting wild unfounded rumors about Hil and Bubba. You have a lot of experience at that. Go to it.

You are correct, this story has dragged on WAY past it's due date. But, she hasn't accepted anything yet.
How about we all just WAIT and SEE....then when Obama tells us why he has asked her to join him, then we can start discussing.
Until then everything is pure speculation. I just think bloggers love to take stories like this and dissect it to pieces.
