The Oxdown Gazette:

This is what Home Depot's founder Bernie Marcus said on a conference call yesterday:

"If a retailer has not gotten involved with this, if he has not spent money on this election, if he has not sent money to Norm Coleman and these other guys," Mr. Marcus said, apparently referring to Republican senators facing tough re-election fights, then those retailers "should be shot; should be thrown out of their goddamn jobs."

It's nice to know Home Depot supports the death penalty for not supporting their politics. The coming EFCA fight is going to be bloody.

Never like Home Depot--always terrible customer service.

Is there a website, or other kind of place where we can get information about companies like this? I would like to zone in on the one's that sponsor Limbaugh and those types. Anyone?

This is an example of corporate responsibility as the corporate sector wants us to view it? Vicious bigotry as policy?

Who else does he hate beyond the majoirty of US citizens? What sort of racist epithets are usual to him?

Sorry to belabor the point but don't retailers generally know their customers. Doesn't he realize how this will fly with the 98% rest of the income scale? Stupid is as stupid does.

i know some wonderful firefighters that just completed a ramp for a handicapped man in the neighborhood. the items were to be donated by home depot, however, when the fire fighters went to pick up the materials, home depot resinded the offer with the excuse that it was due to the economic downturn. the head firefighter of this project paid for the items out of his own pocket. this is a true story and this happened this week. shop anywhere but HD. i know i will.

We recently bought a refrigerator from Lowe's for a rental house. The people who delivered the refrigerator damaged the freezer door. Lowe's manager immediately delivered and installed a new door...with apologies. The same refrigerator was very noisy and Lowe's sent up a tech to see what the trouble was. Turned out to be a defective fan. The outcome was Lowe's replaced that fridge with another one...which is working fine. No hassle, and no trying to get out of their responsibility to us.

Bernie Marcus is retired from Home Depot. Before I boycott them, does anyone know if he is still a major stockholder? Is Lowe's any more liberal? Help me out folks, I'm building a house and Lowe's is 40 miles further than HD. I personally don't like either and lament the good lumber yards they ran out of business, but I still need to nail up a few boards. Thanks for any help.

No one from Lowe's has opened his mouth and put his feet in it like this guy.(Yet)

He remains director emeritus and Home Depot's largest single stockholder.

Lowe's cancelled all their advertising on Fox News a few months back due to the content of the shows.

Spread the word, boycott Home Depot.

The best place to buy is Lowe's.

...excuse me, please wake up America! The best place to shop is your local small buisness.
If you want to boycott, then boycott all the big box corporate retailer/vendors who destroy small local business and lend a bland sameness to every town in America.

Well maybe I just don't understand. If he's for the GOP because of their deregulation stance, then maybe he's got a point. After all he has been thinking of expanding into selling tainted Chinese milk, so it makes perfect sense.

BTW, why does anyone in their right mind import milk from the most toxic nation on the planet? Their surface water (lakes and rivers) is well over 50% polluted. Maybe the cows drink Perrier? Doubt it.

Just heard this eve that we import tons of food and drug product from China. That is frightening. Was in reference to the FDA having an office in China proper for oversight and guidance, but not for monitoring quality!! Really scary to me, I want clear labels in English!

Should have added that the toxic water is being used directly on vegetation and livestock, causing a spike in cancer rates.

In the past, we've spent a small fortune at Home Depot but now that Marcus is such an ardent supporter of the Republican Party, I'll be more than happy to take my business to Lowes. Adios, Home Depot.

Lowes is making inroads in Southern Ontario at just the right time. Does money make people stupid or do they start out that way, without anyone noticing?

Hard to tell. It's possible that money geometrically enhances their inherent stupidity.

I think the point is, many of Senator Obama's programs (i.e. health insurance) are to be financed by small business. Bottom line -- if it costs you more per employee, you have to cut some employees to stay in budget. Not much different than raising taxes on a family. The family then has to spend less on something else. I think those that are only lightly educated in finance in academic life, will be educated by a real life epiphany in the next couple of years.

Contrary to the popular caricature of fat cattedness with cigar, sometimes a small business owner is just a regular guy that has conceived the best ___ (skateboard, surfboard, snowboard, solar cell, windmill.. ) known to man. So, now it costs $2,000 more per year per employee under a new plan.

What do they do?
1). just build a smaller house.
2). Hire fewer, but more productive, employees
3). Raise prices

I don't know, but i would do numbers 2 and 3 . Bottom line is that WE are paying for CHANGE, not "them".

Last time I checked, Home Depot wasn't a small business.

Sixty-something years ago, we all were willing to cut way back on sugar, chocolate, nylon, and rubber, all for a noble cause. Right now (assuming you're a property owner), you're paying out property taxes so that other people's children get a free education. Are you too selfish to want to help your fellow Americans get decent health coverage, or are you still buying into the GWB nonsense that "the private sector can do a better job"?
