JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Republican John McCain has defeated President-elect Barack Obama in Missouri _ the last state to be decided in the 2008 presidential election.

McCain's narrow victory over Obama breaks a bellwether streak in which Missourians had picked the winning presidential candidate in every election since 1956.

With all jurisdictions reporting complete but unofficial results, McCain led Obama by 3,632 votes Wednesday out of more than 2.9 million cast _ a margin of 0.12 percentage points.

Both men spent considerable resources trying to win Missouri, a state that Obama ultimately did not need for his national victory.

Obama won 365 electoral votes. Missouri's 11 electoral votes will give McCain 173.

I stated from the beginning that the bellweather title did not coincide with the campaign in that other elections were different they all contained same gender same race this did not factor in this one

I called a voters in MO for the Obama campaign and I think it is good that the state looses its bellwether status. Folks there really need to wake up to and catch up with what's going on around them.

Missourah has fewer Latinos and more evangelicals than your typical demographic, so it is not surprising that it is no longer a bellwether

McCain's fangs scare me. They remind me of barney's.

He needs to get a job done on those choppers. They are so remarkable I had to reiterate myself.

IT IS A GOOD NEWS!!!

Next time you don't have to worried about media giving too much attention to this potentially red state.

That small a margin triggers a recount - doesn't it?

At this stage of the game -- who cares. Makes no diff to Obama now. Waste of money, waste of time. The numbers will show that there is a building in some of the states to change from red. The Repugs should realize that the 'Red' isn't as secure as they think.

Missouri may be goofy, but they're not the ones that re-elected Bachmann.
