I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Fox News' Shepard Smith was very upset over an email he received regarding his discussion of the potential bailout of the auto industry, and he was not afraid to show it. Smith read the whole email on the air, and then repeatedly insulted the man, starting off by acknowledging he mispronounced the emailer's name, but flatly declaring he "didn't care." Watch it.

Sure, blame it on the unions. That's the easy way out. NEVER let it be said that the greedy CEO's and shareholders had any part in this mess. Enron was not union, how do you explain their wipeout. Oh yes, that's right, greedy CEO's, CFO's, COO's and don't forget the shareholders. NO don't ask, I do not work for a union shop. No union in contract medical field.

The Republicans have tried for years to bust the unions. Why? Because the union workers are overwhelmingly Democrats and any way that crowd {republicans} can cut off the oxygen supply, they'll do it.

Not because the unions are full of democrats, but the UNION LEADERS are water-carriers for the Liberals of the democrats....this is why they should be busted, plus the fact they do not help the workers...they help themselves and the LIBS...that's it..

I watched some of the hearings yesterday, and the senator from Michigan struck a chord with me, which she said that the automakers are companies that compete with countries. (For example health care furnished by the country)
Yes they are dinosaurs and somehow they have to be brought into the 21st century. I'm afraid that's gonna hurt a lot of workers when it happens. But I know what I don't want to see happen, is that one of our automakers would be bought up by China or some other country. I don't know about how others feel but I'm not ready to go Global just yet.

As an Alabama resident, let me give you the lowdown on Richard Shelby. He was a Democrat when the Democrats held the reins of power. He switched to the Republicans when they accended to power. Let the Democrats consolidate their hold and he will switch back, just wait and see. My personal favorite Shelby moment? He managed to to get federal Gulf Coast Reconstruction money (money that was supposed to go to Katrina victems) reallocated to his buddy, our mayor Walt Maddox here in Tuscaloosa, for a riverfront development project that Walt's cronies in real estate had been pushing but just didn't want to pay for themselves. The payoff to Shelby? We tore down an elementary school and replaced it with a prk namaed after Richards wife Annette. That's just one of the reasons the Gulf Coast is still in shambles.

"the republicans are a failed ideology anti-union anti-human and the public tossed them on the trash heap, the good government is moving in, and the haters and destroyers will soon be out of office!"

I can't agree more.

This is an opportunity for lawmakers to get the automakers to finally build the kind of high mileage cars we need that will actually help THEM become more successful and compete responsibly with Japan. Equal demands and provisions can be placed to ensure that taxpayers are re-paid WITH INTEREST. So what's the big deal?

Typical of the rethugs, they don't see opportunity, they only see failure and a chance to attack something that makes them "look strong, determined and leading!"

Makes me so happy that this last election so strongly highlights their absolute failure in leadership.

I know, I can't believe I would agree with anything on Fox but I do. To do this "loan" they need to have a TON of condition's attached and anyone involved need's to be fired with NO money going out the door with them. P.S. I could use a loan as well!

Actually I agree with him too. I refuse to watch Fox News for any reason but when I see Shepard Smith's video's posted online I often agree with his opinions. Especially considering the rest of the Fox News(Entertainment) Personalities who I literally agree with less than one percent of the time.

Further more, "going nuclear"... not by my definition.

He's right. You should agree with him.

Shep Smith is the only talking head at Fox that I can stand. You should've seen him ripping people for the hateful things some people on Fox said after they announced Obama won on Election Night, his disgust at the boos at the McCain rally, and his annoyance with Joe The Plumber for some of the ridiculous comments he was saying. Shep is a stand up guy. I respect the man so far.

Americans continue to point fingers. Is it the unions fault for demanding health care and pension coverage. These costs are built into the price of every car. Or is it managements fault for continuing to oppose any form of publically financed health care.

Or more likely is it the middle class who rails against taxes to pay for a publically financed healthcare system when they are paying a tax in the form of higher prices for everything they buy that is made in this country.

As the CFO of a manufacturing company I can testify that for every one I hire there is an average of 10 to 15K dollars of cost related to health care and retirement including Fica taxes. This cost must be covered in the cost of our product. So we are very naive if we do not believe that we are already paying taxes to provide health care and retirement. The problem is that under the system a lot of this tax is going to the Insurance companies and Wall Street rather than providing health care and a secure retirement.

The Auto unions are against the Big 3 going Chapter 11 because it would force the companies to re-do their business models, and therefore, the union contracts would be null and void....Unions do not want to be deemed irrelevant, but this is exactly what needs to be done.

peggyleg, leave America you are not patriotic. The unions whether you belong to one or not
is the reason, there is fair pay at most companies and in Government,State and City jobs.
Remember the fire that burned up hundreds of shirt workers downtown, that worked in cruel and
inhuman conditions, not to mention poor pay, it was long ago, but if the unions weren't part
of policing the corporations in this country many people may not have a job period.

Go back to whatever country you and ancestors came from. Even in Europe the Unions are
repected today.

Remember NORMA RAE. I am sick the neo-con idiots in this country.

Well, this neo-con works for a living, and I don't NEED anyone speaking for me.....I guess we are talking about dumbed-down Americans here being a part of Unions, because they don't seem to be able to speak for themselves....

Also, Maybe the state of Michigan wouldn't be in the debt that they are in if thew were a right-to-work state....just a thought...

Yeah the issue is complex. But Shep is right, where does it end? You have to pay the piper eventually, and the auto industry here in the U.S. clung to their backwards ways, and short sighted vision and now they need 25 billion, that's billion with a 'b', dollars. Go to a bank auto industry. Get a loan the old fashioned way. You know why they don't? Because this way it's not a loan, it's a birthday card from Grandma with a check inside for them to waste again with no long term accountability. To that email writer...anti-union? Are you saying that the American auto industry was pro-union? You gotta be kidding me! Visit Flint, check out Detroit, no love for the community from those guys. GM moves its plants to Mexico to avoid paying salaries. I would love to see them collapse, it's called business karma. But if the auto industry really wants it, they'll have to earn it. That means, we'll tell them what cars to make, what mileage they should have, and force them to only produce green products from here on out. I guarantee if they did, they wold make money. Otherwise, do like Ashton Kutcher suggested on Real Time and get the oil companies to bail you out.

There are problems with our auto industry but nothing that can't be fixed. It once again was our dumbassed idea of free market capitalism that got us into this mess. That and government being so short sighted it didn't insist on fuel efficient autos and research into alternate fuels, mass transit etc.
Go ahead destroy unions and all those that could make a living wage without 4 years of college will be working at Wally World and you will be subsidizing them with food stamps and health care anyway.

We always hear the expression "Too big to fail" yet we continually let companies get bigger. Ford bought Volvo. Chrysler bought Jeep, GM buys Hummer. B of A buys Merrill, Serius and XM merge. etc etc.

The key to making sure that no company is too big to fail is to start enforcing antitrust regulations. Take the 25 Billion and give it to a small startup company that is trying to break into the game and is willing to produce fuel efficient cars. I was at the Auto Show in New York last year and there were several companies that were trying to bring these cars to market but could not compete with the big 3. Lets give them that 25 Billion and let the big 3 figure out how to compete.

was Teddy Roosevelt, a Republican, who recognized the danger of monopolies. And a monopoly does not mean just one company but it could be several companies working in collusion. This was the case with the railroads in the late 1800's and the steel companies. There must be true competition and then we can talk about Darwinian economics and the survival of the fittest.

Right now the richest companies eliminate real competition by either buying out smaller companies or barring entry into the market. Watch the movie Tucker to see what the big three did in collusion when Tucker tried to create some competition.
