Washington Post:

The CIA repeatedly misled Congress and the Justice Department in their investigations of the 2001 shoot-down of a Peruvian plane carrying U.S. missionaries, according to findings of an internal CIA probe released today by congressional officials.

The agency's inspector general concluded that CIA officers in Peru consistently ignored rules of engagement in connection with the downing of at least 10 aircraft suspected of carrying narcotics over the South American country. Yet, CIA managers covered up the problems and knowingly gave false accounts to government officials investigating whether agency employees committed crimes.

Excerpts of the inspector general's report were released by Rep. Peter Hoekstra (Mich.), the ranking Republican on the House intelligence committee. He called today for a new criminal inquiry, as well as congressional hearings, into what he described as a "startling" attempted coverup by the spy agency.

I wonder how much money you could save if you shut down the CIA?

I mean they haven';t gotten much RIGHT in the history of their existence. WAY overestimated the strength of the Soviet Union, failed to forsee its collapse..... a long record of abject failure.

Where else would such an organization be kept in business?

Then what fun would the Jason Bourne movies be? Who would James Bond make a fool of in his next dozen films? We might be better off just contracting out all the spook stuff to the Israeli Mossad...they know their stuff, and are more than happy to place an exploding cell phone into someones jihad stocking. I recall my brief encounter with one of their Officers (CIA) in Virginia Beach, and how I was mystified as to how he knew where I lived, etc. Years later, it occured to me that they use the same principal the Gypsey lady uses when she "reads" your palm....makes you tell on yourself without realizing it. Talk about some whiz-bang spy work, huh? You would think they had learned their lesson back in 2000-2001 when they got caught out there, in spades (9/11), due to our Governments institutionalized racism. You know....no one in the intel community speaks Arabic, since they seem to only want to hire blond haired, blue eyed University of Iowa graduates...who could barely even infiltrate the Skinheads, much less Al Quaeda. How can you know what's going on in the Islamic culture, if you isolate yourself from it via racist hiring practices? Even MI6 has realized the error of their ways, and is activey recruiting Arabic/Farsi/Korean/Pashtun speaking agents in London. Way to go, CIA....make yourself obsolete via self-fulfilling prophecy.

That was when J Edgar was still around and he was trying to shut down the 5 Families at the same time. The lesson is to pick your battles carefully.

Read John Le Carre's The Secret Pilgram.

The plot is that retired spy George Smiley is brought back to the Circus for one last lecture to the newest class of spooks. After the fall of the Soviet Union.

One of the youngsters asks Smiley just that question:"Why do we need spies? Don't reporters do the exact same job?"

Smiley agrees that spies are not that necessary.:

You need to read the book for the full answer but it was something like:

People and especially politicians love to be on the inside of secret information. It makes them feel special, Privileged.

And for that reason we will always have spies.

Anyhow read that book. And EVERYTHING else he has written. He had Bush/Cheney pegged years before they came on the scene. Everything that has happened in the past 8 years is somewhere or other in Le Carre's books.

And Smiley had the last word on the Fall of Communism: "The right people lost.".

It made George Sr. a lot of money. First, he brought it in by the ton inmilitaryaircraft, 100s of tons. Sold it in min ority nei ghborhoods, got people ad dicted, laundered it, started the w a r on d rugs to cover it up, put the same people in jail that they got ad dicted, invested in pris ons, and made money hand over foot. They flew it in through Arkansas too. Wink, wink.

Quote of George Sr. "If they ever find out about this, they will drag us through the streets." I think it is time to do some dragging.

Would Wright have heard about this as he was with the Marines 2nd Div in the 60's? His military connections and background- along with being a trusted man of the cloth- make him likely to be more knowledgable than most.

Why are we authorized to shoot down any plane for smuggling? So drug smuggling is a capital crime with no need for trial?

This is only the tip of the iceberg.

CIA reform has to go to the top of the agenda of the Obama Revolution.

They have proven that more transparency in government is needed.

All the scandals involved with the C I A since Reagan must be brought up again and pardons repealed to really clean up the crooks running this country. We need to find all the money that has been stolen and take it back. If we don't do something about them, they will regroup, lick their wounds, and dress up another candidate that they control to steal everything we have and do worse than before as has been seen time and again. These people see government as a gold mine. They cut it up, sell it to their friends, put more people in jail while they invest in prisons and give them no bid contracts, they run the companies that run our w a r, they then run their companies into the ground, and ask for a bail out. This is a historical moment in history that there will have to be an amendment in order to reduce presidential powers and reverse past pardons of crimes egregious to our country and to the world such as Iran contra and making deals with Iran to keep the host ages until after the Reagan/Carter election.

Thing is the CIA is an entangled web if they're ever was one. It's going to take time to sort through all this, and without putting any of our operatives in danger to boot because of shake ups in coordination.
