Talking Points Memo   |   November 20, 2008 06:08 PM

Advisers to Bill and Hillary Clinton believe they've given the Obama transition team much if not all of the all the information on Bill's post-presidency they will be asking for, and see the Clinton camp as now being in a holding pattern, waiting on a formal offer of the State Department gig to Hillary from Obama, a source close to the negotiations tells us.

The source adds that it's always possible that more requests for info about Bill could be made, which the Clinton team would willingly furnish if asked, but says that it looks as if the vast majority of the Obama camp's desires have been met. Multiple news outlets have reported that Hillary has not made up her mind whether to take the gig, and the source confirms this.

They should just get divorced. It will be fair to both parties and will bring a bit more happiness and honesty in their lives.

If Obama is serious about selecting HRC for the SOS position, then his vetting team must be fully aware that there was a HEARING on the Clinton's ongoing lawsuit in LA Superior Court, this morning (08:31 PST). http://www.lasuperiorcourt.org/civilCaseSummary/index.asp?CaseType=Civil The Civil Case Number is: BC304174

1) Bill Richardson is a true native, not a red-necked carpetbagger. His ethics are untainted, he's truly experienced in foreign affairs and has had the courage to support Obama @ a critical time despite Carville's religious right attacks calling him Judas. Foremost he's a proponent of change, not Walmart nickel & dime treason!

2) Change: does NOT include Bubba and Buttette Clinton.

3)To call the Clinton's Change is not only an oxymoron. It is an insult to the spirit of the American people.

4) voted for Barack Obama because I believed that he"d bring about a Change from the Divisive and Mendacious politics of the Bush"s and the Clinton administrations!.

5) Barack, If you haven't the courage to say NO to the unending dramas, lies, and underhanded dealings of the Clintons, how can we expect you fairly represent us with an Achminajad, a Putin, a Kim Jung Il?.

5) Should you empower Hillary as Secretary of State I'll return to my Republican past and relegate you to the wreckage left by Richard Nixon. And, I'll personally call all 226 potential supporters and apologize for your treachery."I have their phone numbers I owe them that and I"ll make my recommendations known.. This is a crisis in credibility! I"d love to start a recall even before the inauguration. Biden, Richardson, Dodd all now have greater credibility.

I WILL PRAY FOR SOMETHING TO STOP THIS LINE OF THINKING

TO ME IT IS THE WORST IDEA EVER TO POP INTO HIS FUTURE ADMINISTRATION
WHAT ARE THEY ALL THINKING ????

WHAT IS WRONG WITH THEM ? DID HE PROMISED THIS IN EXCHANGE FOR THEM BEHAVING DURING THE ELECTIONS.... ??

EVEN WORSE....
WE DO NOT WANT THE CLINTONS

YOU PROMISED YOU WOULD LISTEN SENATOR OBAMA
IF WE HAD WANTED HER AND HER HUSBAND

YOU WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ELECTED

President-Elect Obama was elected to be the President of America, the leader of our nation and the free world, all of which is much bigger than each one of us, but all of which each one of us is a part of. The challenges he faces are also much bigger than our personal needs and wants, yet what we need and want is part of the bigger challenge as well. Finally, the Change Obama exhorted was not the million and one different interpretations of Change that each of us personally envisioned, or a change in the faces or names that are familiar to us, or in the people we like or don't like, but a Change in the governance of our country and in the way he will lead his administration to serve the country he was elected to represent. He's not even had a chance to lead yet, or even to be inaugurated as our leader, and already we're judging him for not addressing our personal concerns and personal preferences in the very exact way that we personally want him to address them.

If this is any sign of the next four years, I worry not about what his opponents will inevitably do, but about what his supporters will do, to undermine his presidency as we are now undermining the hard decisions he must make in building the foundation for his presidency.

The only plausible explanation for appointing Hillary Clinton is the following. I preface by saying I wish Obama would choose someone first and foremost qualified for the job and viewed as 100% loyal and subordinate to President-elect Obama. Serving as SoS for eight years would be the best job preparation possible for the next Democrat candidate for president in 2016. Obama is already preparing his legacy -- keeping a Democrat in the Oval Office after his two terms -- and enabling Hillary to plan her future instead of figuring out how to sabotage his.

She has never been qualified for any political position she has been awarded; why stop now? If Obama realized how unpopular the Clintons are he would end this charade and pick someone competent and experienced.

Indeed. So what possible explanation can there be for this unfortunate choice?

Can't the Clintons just shut up about this until it's a done deal (or not)? I really don't want to go through the next four years with one Hillary headline after another. Either she gets the job or she doesn't. It's NOT all about Hillary. That she has to be the little prima donna no matter where she goes or what she does speaks poorly about all women's capabilities (can we really function as well as men without always having to be the center of attention?).

The Democratic Party is more than Hillary and Bill Clinton. Why is it so important to have their approval or imput into everything? Who won the Presidency? Certainly it could have not been Obama because the Clinton's won't leave the building. I can only hope that Obama will stand and bring this entitlement attitude of the Clinton's to a stop. Aren't we supposed to be celebrating the most historical race in the history of America? Not what Hillary Clinton, will or won't do. This piece was only put out there to help her save face if she isn't chosen.

obama didn't choose hillary as his VP, despite pressure to do so...why should he feel pressure to choose hillary now as SOS?....face it, obama WANTS hillary...and as he has proven time and time again, it's his show, not hers...

hang on there...the drama that is the clintons is in part due to the MEDIA'S OBSESSION with the clintons...and i might add the public's obsession with the clinton's....hillary (and bill) generate more posts on this site than any other figure, including obama himself...

Why second quess Obama. He kept good control of his campaign. It seems like Obama/Hillary relationship has improved considerably. I think he won her over and that he really impresses him. I don't think she would take the job otherwise. Hillary/Bill, the drama the spinning etc. etc. drove me crazy but Obama has proven to be right over and over again. Nobody will deny her talent and she knows she is working for him as president. Why else would she want to leave the senate.

Although I'm not feeling any love for Hillary right now, if Obama chooses her as Secretary of State, I can live with it if he can. President-Elect Obama has shown again and again, much to the dismay of his opponents, that he's his own man, and this will be HIS show. HE will set the agenda for all of his appointees, and if anyone, even Hillary Rodham Clinton, tries to undermine him, he will be a force to be reckoned with. He's a gentle, humble man, but he has a strong constitution and a strong will, and I don't think he would allow anyone to force him to abandon his vision for governance and his vision for our country and our relationship with the world community. From a political perspective, he may have to compromise from time to time, which may even be the case with Hillary, but he will never compromise his core values. I do believe that Hillary has the potential to be an effective Secretary of State, but her problem is her ego and Bill; yet I'm confident that Obama will find a way to contain both. He's a smart man, much smarter than many people have wanted to give him credit for, in spite of the fact that he's outsmarted them at every move, and I don't think that he will fail us this time either. He knows Hillary even better than we do, and he knows what he's doing.

Backroom, I'm sure. What else could their be with the Clinton's in the game.
If these large issues belonged to someone else it would be over. The entire process has been flipped for her, the question is why? What happened to Bill Richardson, or John Kerry.

The amount of drama in itself is sending a clear message that things aren't as concrete as they seem. Hillary isn't to happy giving up her power or opportunity. She will be completely obedient to Obama and i don't think she wants to do that. Also does anyone believe that Bill will change his ways? Hardly, Hillary has never been to make Bill change his way, not now that ever,
