Karl Rove Advises Obama On DOJ Politicization

Today's Wall Street Journal features an op-ed from former White House Adviser Karl Rove that's filled with cautions and advice and ruminations on the obvious offered up to Barack Obama because Rove just wants to go on helping out as the president's brain and stuff. Anyway, aside from having the most strangely misleading deck copy in the world (it reads "There may be more difficulties than he realizes in closing Gitmo" when in fact the only mention of Gitmo comes in the eleventh paragraph of this sixteen paragraph editorial), the piece is noteworthy for this paragraph, stuck in at the end, where Rove tries to work in one last "suspicious associations" charge on Obama, for auld lang syne:

There is also a thorny local controversy. Should the new president replace U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald, who prosecuted Mr. Obama's fund-raising patron, Tony Rezko, and is investigating high-profile Democrats?

HAHA YES, Karl! Would you be referring to the same U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald who - uhm...investigated you and other high-profile members of the Bush White House in the Valerie Plame CIA leak scandal? And, wouldn't you know, Karl, from personal experience, Karl, whether it's wise or not to remove a bunch of U.S. Attorneys for political reasons?

Having had issues with the US Attorney's office in Minnesota for 6 years now, and having tried to contact the Inspector General of the Justice Department several times over the years to complain about the Minneapolis office with absolutely no evidence of my communications being receving, I sent a first class, sign on receipt, letter to US Attorney Fitzgerald and his screening committee in August explaining my problems with reaching the IG and asking them to investigate the Minneapolis office. After 2 weeks of not being signed for, I faxed the Minneapolis office of the Justice Department on a Friday. Monday morning at 7:30am the letter was signed for in Chicago.

I took all of this as proof of interference, so at considerable expense I personally drove to Chicago and hand delivered the same letter to the intake window at Fitzgerald's office. Two weeks later I get a letter saying they couldn't investigate another office. I call them and ask them to forward my letter to the Inspector General of the Justice Department -- they pointedly refused ! I regard that as obstruction of justice at most, and non-interest in justice at least.

I am going back to Chicago to ask that Fitzgerald and his entire screening committee have their law licenses removed !
