McCain Returns To Capitol Hill

He has returned to where he did not wish to return. Back to walking the spotted white marble corridors of the Russell Senate Office Building. Back to Room 241, which says "Senator John McCain -- Arizona" on the door, and where a trickle of people stroll in on this morning in hopes of getting his pre-autographed photo and to inquire about obtaining tickets for Barack Obama's inauguration. Others stare. He has perfected his own middle-distance stare and the curt nod of someone coping.

He quietly enters the office a few minutes after 8 a.m. on this Wednesday, tightly smiles at a receptionist and, without a word to anyone, makes a hard left through a suite of his aides' offices that leads to his own. He is alone. He walks now without so much as a single bodyguard, the Secret Service having disappeared when his dream of winning the presidency did, 15 days ago. It is a jarring reminder of just how much a defeated candidate's station changes in about two weeks.

Everyone wants to be see "that one" sworn in as our 44th POTUS. Thank you, Johnny for running such a pathetic and dirty campaign.

Wow....i actually feel pity for McCain. I mean, his lifelong dream was
to become President of the United States Of America & that dream
will never be fulfilled.

He fought, worked and sacrificed for this country.

Yet at the same time he ran a nasty, deceitful campaign and was very
rude and tactless at times. Like when he called Obama "that one" &
tried to paint Obama as a terrorist and a foreigner.

Obama never went there. The best man was chosen...

As others have said, this article tried to paint McCain as a figure for whom we should feel pity. Had McCain maintained his true identity throughout this campaign, I think many (me included) would in fact feel that he lost with honor. However, clearly this was not the case. His campaign was anything but honorable, and his actions (or decisions to take advice from poor campaign advisors) ultimately became his downfall--not just as a presidential candidate, but as a respected political figure. I have far less respect for him than I ever have before. The article talked about Goldwater and Kerry both having successful political careers following their presidential losses. However, neither of them ran such shameful campaigns, so they were able to re-enter the political arena with their heads held high with honor.

Maybe he's moonlighting as a scalper because Cindy is having an affair...........

Boo-Hoo. Are we supposed to feel sorry for him? The articles says, "friends wonder how he is doing". Gosh, how noble. I wonder how the Obama's are doing with all the threats on their lives which greatly increased due to the hateful, low life negative campaign run by McCain/Palin.

I understand that he is considered a war hero, but I don't believe that give anyone a pass for life. His recent actions were shameful and that showed Americans the real McCain.

Just to put a little "icing" on that "cake" I think I will send John and Cindy McCain a Christmas card this year thanking them for selecting Sarah Palin as his running mate.

I almost feel sorry for McCain. Then I remember how close he put Scarah to the presidency, how his campaign was racially charged and how demeaning he was to Obama during the debates.
Nah! He can stuff it.

Yeah, i started to feel a little sorry for John as well but then i remembered that his
campaign and his message had negative racial undertones and that he used
to roll his eyes and look everywhere but at Obama when he spoke during debates.

He wouldn't even look at Barack Obama. He treated Obama very meanly.

Sen. McCain, let me introduce you to Karma.

I love it. The man deserves all the humiliation that can be heaped on him for that outrageous rabble-rousing, bigotry-filled campaign. Bring it on - more please!

Was that story written to make us feel sorry for him? Please. McCain was very hateful and nasty during his campaign. How can people forget that overnight?

I don't think it was written with the intent to solicit pity. Actually I think it was written with a smug grin on the author's face!

I know I feel better after having read this. How bout the rest of you??
