Washington Post:

Barack Obama raised half a billion dollars online in his 21-month campaign for the White House, dramatically ushering in a new digital era in presidential fundraising.

In an exclusive interview with The Post, members of the vaunted Triple O, Obama's online operation, broke down the numbers: 3 million donors made a total of 6.5 million donations online adding up to more than $500 million. Of those 6.5 million donations, 6 million were in increments of $100 or less. The average online donation was $80, and the average Obama donor gave more than once.

It is.

I gave over $ 900.00 in increments of about $25 to $50 each time and I'm still giving today. I forget what he just asked for recently, but the video accompanying it , was so powerful, before I knew it, I was donating again. I know it was for something important, but I forget what is was. It was the day before yesterday.

I say that if one of the candidates opts out of public financing in the future, his opponent gets all the money. Both halves.

It's just sitting there anyway, why not?

500 mil is quite a haul...and I contributed to it as well, but I have to say I am getting a little annoyed w/ these e-mails from the Obama campaign asking for money for their transition fees and to pay back he DNC. What about having 1 inaugural ball instead of nine? I would like nothing more than to give the Obama team their moment, but in light of this spiraling economy, I think it would be wise to scale back, and use the surplus where it is needed. It would certainly send a message to the country that this administration indeed does things differently.

It felt great to donate to the presidential campaign {for the first time I might add} of such a worthy candidate. I look forward to donating, calling and volunteering again in 2012.

I was happy to donate to Obama during the campaign. Now because of the LIEberman fiasco and Senator Reid's comments I will stop donating. I will continue to support Obama but not financially until LIEberman is gone.

Did you really hate it when special interest big money financed all the re-election campaigns and dictated all the policies and laws-----------or did you just hate it that you weren't the one doing the dictating? We picked the best guy, but we don't own him. We did something hugely important here. If anybody wants to be president after this, they're going to have to win over the people! But, let's have a quiet word with ourselves and decide not to become the fat cat special interests that we hated. We chose a man to be president. The decisions and the responsibilities are is. I think he can handle it and do a good job. You must have thought so too. Why not do all we can to help when he asks for it and see if the country is better in four years than it is now? We get to vote again then so we'll have a chance to profitably express our opinion. In the mean time, it's his job and he has to do it his way.

No, we don't "own" anyone of them. But they DO work for us. And as much as the people gave to this campaign, expecting change, they have a right to push for it. If Petey131 wants to object by withholding donations, it's a fair decision. I withheld from the DCCC in 2006 and gave to the DNC because I didn't like the way Rahm Emanuel was treating Dean and his 50-state strategy. And I wasn't the only one who made that decision. Proved to be the best choice.

Yo PEOPLE!!! Dozens of comments on the editorial gaff and hardly a word about what a great job we did? And Obama did? Come, on! There are three hundred million people in this country and and 1% of that/three million of us, took our government in hand and made something big happen! We should be mucho proud of ourselves and of our candidate. And we should also remember that he will be the president of the entire three hundred million and not ours alone so he won't be making every decision just to please us. We didn't like that so much when the fat cat money people did it for all those years and got laws made to order. Let's take care not to become, or even want to become, the things we hated. We chose him, worked for him, donated to him and voted for him. We can choose to support things he does that we believe in for the next four years. Then we can choose whether to vote for him again. But we don't own him. We didn't buy him. He isn't in our pocket. Hopefully we won't see much of that kind of politics after this. We've changed the world of politics. Either you win the people or you don't win!! Viva la people!

We did a really good job! And there is still lots to do. It feels good to take a hand and not just wait and see what your government ends up doing to your life. Right now, Minnesota race needs money attention for legalities. Georgia race needs money and a ton of volunteers to get the people out to vote who voted in the election. This one will be won on turn out. After that, Obama will be letting us know where help is needed. I like this whole process of doing my part to take my country back with my own hands.

For once we'll have a President who is on top of current technology and how to use it to move people! I look forward to his great choices in cabinet members and staff.

I hope they'll figure someting out where he can use the technology which has helped him greatly once he's in office. I can't believe that he'll have the first lap top in the oval office! They seem to be a bit backwards when it comes to the pres!

I also heard a crazy rumor that atleast $100.00 of that was legal donations from Americans. Though I must confess I find it highly unlikely.

Many here just have a chronic phobia about her, sort of like Tucker Carlson and his fear of castration, as well as Matthews' claims that men who support Hillary have a testesterone problem. Rather than saying anything about Hillary, the crazy, nutty vitriol speaks volumes more about those who spew it than anything about her.

Bear this in mind oh mighty one who says Obama better remember who got him in-----We all got him in and he's promised to be president to all of us. Equally. There are 300 million Americans and 3 million of us gave money to this campaign. That makes that 1% of us smart and lucky that we were able to do something to change our country. What it doesn't make us is special interest fat cats who now get to make all the decisions because we own him. Did you really hate it when big money paid for all the elections and dictated all the policies and laws-----or did you just hate it that you weren't the one who got to do the dictating??? Think about it.

We shouldn't ever have to be "special interest fat cats" to get our representatives to follow our lead. Why have so many in this country apparently forgotten that we elect these people to represent us? This is the keystone of our republic--that it is a REPRESENTATIVE system. That is the basis of our votes. If you don't embrace this wholeheartedly and push for change from the people, by the people and for the people, you are in essence distilling the very core of our system of governance.

Actually, whether we paid for this campaign or not, this is an elected official and as such he is responsible to us as are all of our elected officials. People seem to have forgotten what a democratic republic is all about.
