Scowcroft

NBC:

Democratic sources say that former Bush 41 National Security Adviser Brent Scowcroft is one of the people whom Barack Obama has been consulting about how to craft his national security team. Knowledgeable sources say Obama reached out to Scowcroft two days ago to discuss defense and national security issues.

Scowcroft, who first served as President Ford's national security adviser, was an early and vocal critic of the Iraq war -- starting in August 2002. That criticism cost the retired Air Force General his position as head of President Bush's Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board.

Obama wants to expand the war in Afghanistan and Pakistan. If his advisers don't talk him out of it we can still hope that the Chinese will refuse to pay for it.

Kind of needs expanding, you know, threat of it becoming a new failed state, all that jazz. Or of course, lets let the guys who rammed airplanes into my home city and killed 2,000-3,000 people go off on their own business as usual. I'm sure that worked out well last time, am I right?

Not as simple as simply expanding the war effort - that didn't work very well for the Soviet Union. Political problems in governing both Afghanistan and Pakistan are paramount.

9/11 was an in-house job. Why do you think Bush tried to block the investigation and in the end he testified refusing the oath. That is proof enough! Had it been anything else he would have investigated it from all angles, everything. Nothing was done, nothing was tested.

I will NEVER forget that day.....and all the tears of all the people as we stood in our conference room and watched the towers implode.... or the crying of the people in every car as they slowly made their way home down the GS Parkway.

I know New Yorkers had it rough, but losing what I thought to be my favorite part of the City... was devastating to say the least....not to mention the empty hole in the skyline.

Seeing photos of New Yorkers scramble and soot covered.... still brings tears to my eyes.

Im all for getting Bin Laden but careful about generalizing Al Queda with Afghanistan. The Afghani people are ethnically different and were brutalized by the Taliban led by the ideological Al Queda elements who took over their country in the aftermath of the Soviet retreat. Many Afghanis were long term supporters of the US and are still some of the nicest people on earth. Compare that to our "friends" the Saudis.

Obama just wants Bin Laden taken care of.,.,,.Don't you? This man is the only responsible brain of the whole outfit that killed 3000 of our citizens on 9/11. Don't you want him hunted down and killed? Our troops need to leave Iraq and come home and then they can be rotated to Afganistan and maybe we can finish the job that we intended to do.

Well this is what i voted for. Hes said that he would listen to people from both sides and he is. i dont see why hardliners are so upset about this. maybe democrats want retribution for bush but that gets us nowhere. never deny information or advice from anyone. the more people he listens to the more info he has to make an informed and educated decision. go bama

Any Republican who was willing to speak out against the Iraq invasion really was trying to put country first.

Obama needs to announce Treasury Secretary. Sooner not later. Paramount.

Why? Are you of the belief that naming someone will stop the hemorrhaging? What will this person do before January 20th? Absolutely nothing.....I wish he would not name Treasury until the New Year.

Because much of the stock market is based on confidence, and it affects investor activities, the lack thereof which is causing the stock market to tumble. You sound like Bush. Learn about the stock market before your show everyone your ignorance.

Who writes these headlines? Why is the source "unlikely"? The guy was against the invasion of Iraq. That's a kindred soul.

Clark has been persona non grata with Obama's campaign all along--even though he didn't trash him during the primaries (llike Lieberman did). And even though he behaved admirably and with 100% support as soon as Hillary conceded.

Someone on Team Obama clearly doesn't like (or trust) Clark. Maybe with Hillary around, Obama will start to get a different perspective on him.

The article says nothing about offering Scowcroft a position...
Unless I am just completely missing it.

I swear that has been repeated enough on HuffPo, but Clark is not available until 2010. In how many languages do you need to be told of that fact?

I heard today that his NSA is more likely to be Susan Rice... but that could have just been a Washington rumor. We'll see.
