The faction that loves Sarah Palin can use the turkey as their mascot. Did you see her interview in front of the turkey slaughter? She is LOL ridiculous and so are her supporters!

She really shows her compassion, doesn't she? Unfortunately this uncaring, cold attitude extends to her children, also. It is ALL about Sarah. Looks like the stylist got left behind.

Logo they used this year at the convention and pictured with this article seems to show an elephant humping 2008!! Funny it turned out the other way around. Not only is the party lost, they have really lousy graphics!

The approval for the Democrats cannot be much better.

We need more than 2 parties. Competition is healthy in every other institution.

61% unfavorable! That means 39% has favorable opinion. Who are these people?

"Most Republicans — 59 percent — want the party to become more conservative..."

What does conservative mean nowadays? Fiscal irresponsibility? Entanglements in foreign war? Big Brother government? Record bailouts of private enterprise? All fruits of labor of the most "conservative" president in history.

They are "the base" that Palin got excited. And I think more conservative means outlawing abortion, homosexuality, reading, science...stuff like that.

Truly conservative, maybe -- which doesn't describe the Bush-Cheney gang. Real conservative principles, if I remember correctly, mean fiscal responsiblity and personal privacy.

I don't know whether personal privacy is really an essential part of conservatism or liberalism. Civil libertarianism appears to be orthogonal to some of the main positions of either conservatism and liberalism.

As an example, the right to privacy is the constitutional justification to overturn abortion bans in Roe v Wade, however, FDA prohibition of certain drugs with known dangerous side-effects, NOW's lobbying for the ban of silicone breast implants, and the drug war in general show that liberal support for making private decisions is only supported if they don't think there is tangible risk involved. Many liberals (but not all) do not believe that a woman should be allowed to choose between the enhanced realism of silicone breast implants and the increased health risk if the implants happen to leak. The risky personal decision of using Vioxx to help your arthritis should be made by public institutions because people may be uninformed about its possible risk of liver damage or not be able to adequately decide whether that risk is worth it. Marijuana should be banned to all as a pain revealer because kids may be able to get ahold of it and become addicted. Even though the government should certainly provide regulations to make sure health professionals and patients are informed of risks and to ensure false claims are not made, the right to privacy in making risky decisions about your body is equally relevant to drugs, surgical procedures, and abortions.

As long as they're fightin' to keep them women from abortin' and them gays from marryin', they don't seem to really care about much else.

I think it is hard for republicans to rediscover old conservative values of small government, reluctance to get involved in foreign wars, etc, when so few of them spoke out against all those aberrations from their "conservative" president. The fact is Republicans have willingly abandoned their traditional values to walk lockstep with their president who had more in common with a typical fascist dictator than an Eisenhower or even a Nixon. Republicans have been reduced to blind allegiance to the Leader and the religiously based social conservatism. All the rest was expediently tossed overboard in order to support the Supreme Leader. No amount of Big Brother government misbehavior, like getting rid of habeas corpus, was going to derail their blind allegiance to the "war" president. How can one go from talking about defending LIberty to wholesale and unimpeded destruction of everything that Liberty stands for? Conservatism morphed into fascism.

And our dear Liberals rolled over and played possum while this unprecedented assault on our Constitution was taking place. Both political parties and their followers ought to be ashamed of themselves. I wish we could replace both of these corporate butt licking parties. Parties that would represent us need to rediscover the old values of our early Republic. The same goes for the American public regardless of their political affinities.

Only 61% negative?

All that proves is that 39% of the country has been watching American Idol reruns 24/7 for the last 8 years and have not yet noticed the attempted takeover of Real Americaâ„¢ by the Talibangelicals.

I love the idea of using the Repug dirty trick on them. I would change my registraion to R for a short while to vote in the primary if Sarah Paliban runs in 12, to make SURE she becomes their nominee.

Obama's electoral landslide was not all that much of a landslide by popular vote.

If his administration doesn't perform, perform, perform we will lose it all again in 4 years.

It isn't all that secure for the Democrats. There is massive educating to do, and major oversight needed over the Dems.

Aw c'mon, the Republican Party can do better than this!
I bet they could get that number up to 75, even 80% by January. They're just not trying hard enough.

Lets hope it stays that way. After all they did to us (the tanking markets, the economy, 2 wars, Guantanamo Bay, Torture, Katrina, women and minorities rights, racism) they deserve what they get. I hope it stays that way past 2010 and 2012 or TO INFINITY AND BEYOND!

only 61 percent? does bush have to call down a plague of leprosy for the rest of the morons out there to get a thin clue?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:25 PM on 11/20/2008

I wouldn't bet on shrub being able to give himself a bath, but there has to be someone who can get through to the 34 per cent that think these jokers are doing good. Boils - that would work - I don't reckon many of them would notice if their arms fell off.

You know at one time or another, people like me did view republicans favorably in past. Christopher Buckley of the National Review said it best "I never left the republican party, they left me". That about sums it up. Now, the GOP is run by religous zealots.

I enjoy Chris Buckley, but sometimes he can be a wee bit slow. The GOP exited stage right about 30 years ago.

I did it too--I didn't agree with all their views being a lefty, but so many of them were just people who saw the world differently and they respected others--how they became frothing at the mouth ideologues who call other American traitors is beyond me...

Now all you pesky liberals out there will understand the true import of Pan's statement that he was a uniter not a divider.

He's pretty much united America (both the real and unreal Americans) on the direction of the economy (roughly 90% think it's heading south) and on the "brand" of the Republican Party (61% won't buy).

And he still has till 20 January to work more miracles.

If he keeps at it, 2025 could arrive in five.

we don't think it's going south we know it--and this mess was well before Obama, who is brand spanking new to politics...

We blame the old guard and rightfully so...it takes years and quite some talent to create this divided mess--thanks Bush, Rush and Hannity et al..
