The young woman at the center of the historic downfall of the governor of New York is finally speaking out.

Ashley Dupré, the 23-year-old former escort who was the target of intense media scrutiny in the days after Gov. Eliot Spitzer's resignation from public office, has stepped forward to give her first television interview. Dupré told ABC News' Diane Sawyer that she does not feel responsible for Spitzer's downfall.

"If it wasn't me, it would have been someone else," she said. "I was doing my job. I don't feel that I brought him down."

It takes two to tango. The beginning of this interview is pathetic. Ashley saying that she sympathizes with the pain of Mrs. Spitzer is atrocious. Ashley Dupre' wasn't sympathizing or feeling Mrs. Spitzer's pain when she was taking Eliot Spitzer's money. I can't believe she is trying to act like a victim and Mrs. Sawyer is exploiting this. It is disgusting. Ashley Dupre had a choice when choosing what line of work she was going to go into. We all have choices that we make. We are responsible for them.

I feel bad for Eliot Spitzer. Where is his tear-jerking video interview talking about his addiction to sex? He was only doing what men for centuries have been doing. Eliot Spitzer is the real victim here. He lost his job and Ashly Dupre will continue to work in her industry. My best wishes to The Spitzer family.

We're being way to gender specific here. There are lots of women who "pay" to have sex with male escorts. It's the oldest profession in the world for men too ..... some men give it away.... some require dinner and a movie.....and on and on. And yes, prostitution could be seen as just upfront sex without BS. I just think it's sex that people pay for because they do not want an emotional connection. It's just business. It's cold, but I guess it works for some people and that applies to men who hire prositutes and women who hire prostitutes.

She's angling to be the Queen of the Famous Political Sex Scandal Gals. She'll be in Playboy and/or Penthouse and probably go out with some celebrity or rock star. Then its on to the John Waters movie or whatever. And don't forget the $7 million book deal. And she's not even pudgy like Monica.

For me the interesting questions about Spitzer, Clinton, Edwards, and all the other men caught with their pants down are these:
Does their lack of integrity or judgment in sexual matters mean they are bad leaders? If so we have to discount the careers of many former Presidents and other political prominents. Should sexual impropriety automatically disqualify someone for political office? If so we have to disqualify a LOT of people.

I agree with the comments in the first two paragraphs of your post. With regard to the question you posed in the third paragraph, I also agree that "automatic disqualification" should not be applied for sexual impropriety. However, the real issues are judgment and character. Any person in high position, particularly in government, puts himself and his / her position at risk when he or she engages in sexual improprieties or other improper acts committed out of arrogance, entitlement., purely personal agendas, etc...they are vulnerable to all sorts of pressures (e.g., extortion) that may cause them to make decisions not in the best interests of their constituents. Accordingly, acts of sexual imporprieties are not insignificant issues in the evaluation of fitness for office.

She seems like a really troubled young woman with severe "Daddy issues." I fear that without some therapy she will likely be hooking again, become involved with another married man, or be back on somekind of drug. It is really sad to see what can happen to a girl that feels abandoned by her father. I also don't see her as a victim or villian in this case, and I do hope she gets some help so she can get on with her life. She's young. She can still get her GED and go to college.

Yeah she did look like Lizzy, but much prettier. Ashley Dupre has repeatedly turned down offers of gozillions to write a book, movie rights, posing for nudie mags and that is great for her. I think the media is being unfair to her and making her out to be the villian when Spitzer is the one who sought her services.
