The young woman at the center of the historic downfall of the governor of New York is finally speaking out.

Ashley Dupré, the 23-year-old former escort who was the target of intense media scrutiny in the days after Gov. Eliot Spitzer's resignation from public office, has stepped forward to give her first television interview. Dupré told ABC News' Diane Sawyer that she does not feel responsible for Spitzer's downfall.

"If it wasn't me, it would have been someone else," she said. "I was doing my job. I don't feel that I brought him down."

oh man. . .why give her a second of our time. She was paid, did a job. that's it. Diane Sawyer .. this was not a story worth chasing.

Spitzer is responsible for what happened, he was a hypocrite unfortunately. i was waay on his side. And obviously there is some malfeasance here but he gave his enemies the rope.

Her emotion seemed forced, like it was delivered in a calculated way to exaggerate the drama of her experience. Perhaps she did feel some regret and embarassment, but this interview was about nothing but fishing for a book deal.

My fellow Americans are really getting stupid. After witnessing the most vile political campaign in my lifetime with McCain and Palin, and the way many of their supporters still rabidly supported them and even wanted them to act up more, it really hit me at just how far we have sunk. It's easy to see when you consider this premeditated dumbing down of Americans, that the powers that be are bankrupting all of us on purpose. WEe aer so uninformed and apathetic, I truly believe they could rape you and you'd do nothing. After all, they've already taken much of your rights away, your homes, your credit, medical programs, etc. and no one did a damn thing. If 1 percent of Americans protested, or boycotted work for a day, that would be 3 million people!! That would be the largest political protest in history. THat would get their attention.

We really should do that as they are scattering frantically to pass laws making it illegal to protest or even criticize. Remember in Minneapolis and Denver at both the GOP and Dem conventions, police wore Star Wars type armour and were spraying everyone with half gallon jumbo size mace cannisters, beating and arresting everyone for doing nothing. They even arrested people in their homes because they'd been surveilled in the weeks prior and were found to be associated with a group planning to protest the convention. That is what you call "THOUGHT POLICE"..

here is the thing...in this country we always come down on the women for doing this job, but they only have work because men call on them to do their "job"

I read all the posts here by guys and women who know NOTHING about prostitution.

You would be amazed at the amount of guys who pay for more than sex. They actually have intelligent conversations with these women. Probably someething they can't get at home.

I lived with a prostitute when I lived in the states, She worked out of the apartment and had regular customers, many of them city officials. She only took on a certain amount of dates during the week.

Here in Holland they even post on the internet when they will be gone on vacation.

I have much more respect for a prostitute than those women working in tittybars teasing guys. That is just sick.

Prostitution is an honest business.

Lapdancing, dryhumping and poledancing.

Not popular here in Europe because it is very demeaning to women.

Good comment. Might I add that despite the obvious teasing (for money, no less), there is ample clientele to keep hordes of women gainfully employed. These men are stupid or lonely -- likely both. I don't like strip clubs, and probably never will. The whole concept of giving money to women so they can tease you, so you can then go home frustrated and alone seems utterly bizarre to me.
