The young woman at the center of the historic downfall of the governor of New York is finally speaking out.

Ashley Dupré, the 23-year-old former escort who was the target of intense media scrutiny in the days after Gov. Eliot Spitzer's resignation from public office, has stepped forward to give her first television interview. Dupré told ABC News' Diane Sawyer that she does not feel responsible for Spitzer's downfall.

"If it wasn't me, it would have been someone else," she said. "I was doing my job. I don't feel that I brought him down."

Clearly Spitzer is responsible for his downfall. Did a lot of people take a certain amount of pleasure in seeing him go down? Of course - He made his name going after white collar crime and adopting the moral high road. When you hold others to that standard, you better make sure your own house is in order.

in the headlights. This sort of thing is not Diane's forté - never was.

Battering this girl over sexual semantics seems like senseless bullying,

especially in light of the feigned concern in the intro, and her intense intent

to discover "why... why." Diane's scolding tone of "feminist inquisitor"

gets in the way of getting this rather dim and damaged girl to relax and open up.

Honestly, Diane does better doing men -- ah, I mean interviewing men.
