NBC/Universal has been promoting various green practices this week with "Green Your Routine" short videos featuring various of their well-known talent. Last night, Conan O'Brien and some of his colleagues on "Late Night" contributed their own public service announcements.

At least their hearts are in the right place. Except for the last two.

If they were serious they wouldn't just limit this campaign to one week a year. Makes no sense. By "they", I mean Conan's bosses, not Conan's show. Also it is not just about being green, but also going organic as much as you can. Too many toxins in our environment and too many in our food. Think of it as preventive medicine or take a pill for your symptoms which may actually be your compromised immune system.

Unless you have some GOOD REASON to fly, don't.

By the way, if you have never traveled outside the USA, that is a good enough reason.

That's funny, because it is true. So many celebrities preach about being green and take their private jets when they could fly commercially or live in huge mansions cutting down trees and taking up more space then they deserve, in my opinion. Oprah, Julia Roberts and Gwyenth Paltrow particularly annoy me because they are most sanctimonious. Get over yourselves!

So, now we're all supposed to be green. Back in the 70's we were all supposed to compost stuff under the kitchen sink? Why do all the bad ideas keep coming back again?

You only thought it was a bad idea because you had it wrong. You should compost your kitchen scraps outside where they can get plenty of air, not to mention leaves and lawn clippings. That might have been your problem.

Incidentally, why is it that you think that "being green" is a bad idea? Can you define "being green"?

He is clearly bigoted against martians. I've detected this with my antennae.

Seriously though, what's not to like about composting? or recyling? or re-using? or in many cases, repairing?

What's not to like about walking or using mass transit when one or both in combination is a practicable option?

You don't have to be "green" to see the sense in this -- merely rational.

'We're sorry, but the clip you selected isn't available from your location. Please select another clip.'
