Cubs May Not Raise All Ticket Prices

The tumultuous economy has played havoc with Tribune Co.'s plans to sell the Chicago Cubs, making it harder for prospective buyers to raise money and throwing into question the value of the storied franchise.

The impact also has trickled down to an issue that hits the pocketbook of everyday fans: ticket prices. Initial financial projections provided to bidders in the spring suggested that already-high ticket prices had substantial room to grow in 2009 and beyond, several sources said.

Since then the economy has worsened and the Cubs disappointed fans by falling well short of their World Series aspirations. With that in mind, the team is taking a more conservative approach with ticket prices for next season, Cubs Chairman Crane Kenney said in a recent interview.
