The problem isn't necessarily a lack of food. Between the mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, candied yams and bounty of desserts, you can usually find a way to stuff yourself silly. Instead, the vegetarian frustration is with the flurry of questions that follow saying "no thank you" to the turkey. "There was definitely some heckling," says Carly McLean, 24, of her first vegetarian Thanksgiving at her parents' house in central Illinois.

I don't feel sorry at all for the vegetarians. Usually, the only thing I can eat unless I bring my own food is the turkey and perhaps potatoes. I have Celiac so can't eat any wheat, barley or rye.

This year I am truly blessed because my son is hosting and he is making gluten free stuffing, desserts, and vegetables, even gravy. My inlaws never go to the trouble and criticise me if I bring my own stuffing and gravy.

Well, I'm guessing there will be many joining their ranks following that disgusting and very disturbing Sarah Palin "turkey pardoning" video.

I usually bring the Tofurky. :-)

This tired old business of the shock of not eating turkey on "Turkey Day" wears me out. -- it's one meal out of 365 days worth of meals, chill out. Choosing to eat from a compassionate standpoint (or for the very valid point of health or factory farm impact on the environment, etc.) should be something we all aspire to.
