The Wall Street Journal is invading the New York Times' advertising turf as competition intensifies in a souring U.S. economy.

Saks Inc., a Times advertiser since 1924, recently chose to promote a new Chanel boutique and made-to-measure men's suits in the Journal. Owner Rupert Murdoch's expansion of general news coverage and a new lifestyle magazine are starting to attract wealthy consumers and create ad space for retailers, said Milton Pedraza, chief executive officer of Luxury Institute LLC.

How the mighty have fallen. Luxury ads indeed. I don't care for this conservative rag!

The NYT is the only one to blame for its recent decline. I still love the NYT, but right now, I have to read other newspapers to verify what I read in it.

Like it or not-when his Rupertship says that he's going to do something, he does it. He has the money to buy talent for the WSJ. Advertisers of luxuries checked the WSJ's circulation demographic & saw wealthy, trendoid, customers.
Don't forget that he said that he would drive the NYT out of business too. Let's admit that Pooch Sulzberger is making his Rupertship's job easier; Pooch isn't what you would call an enterprising publisher or even a publisher. His Rupertship has been an enterprising publisher all of his adult life. Pooch is no match for his Rupertship.

Let us know when Rupee hires some talent.

FYI-his Rupertship has a few cents, that allows him to define talent as it is used by News Corp. A lot of us think that his Rupertship has little or no sense but he still decides what passes for talent in his enterprises. A few people accept Mr Murdoch's meaning for & of talent since they buy his papers or otherwise use what his enterprises produce. Check the circulation, etc. BTW, he also makes money by the ship load. In a capitalist economy-that indicates success.
