Bourne

Variety:

Universal Pictures has made an overall deal with the estate of "The Bourne Identity" author Robert Ludlum that gives the studio exclusive rights to the Jason Bourne character and first look at other Ludlum novels.

The deal with Ludlum Entertainment paves the way for more installments in the Bourne saga, which was originally envisioned as a three-picture series but has become Universal's answer to James Bond.

After the first three films grossed a total of more than $1 billion worldwide, U signed Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass for a fourth film that George Nolfi is penning. Produced by Frank Marshall and Ludlum Entertainment chairman-CEO Jeffrey Weiner, the film will be readied for a summer 2010 release.

The chop-chopping Cello's as rhythm instruments must stay. They add the speed and urgency that carries the action sequences.
Love Moby's "Extreme Ways" playing during the end credits also. Music can make a film.

Woohoo !!! Great news !

Frankly, Matt Damon was the last person I would have pictured for the role, but once I saw the first installment, I couldn't believe how well he worked that part. These movies have great casts, great cinematography and great music. In my mind they are miles above better than the Bond franchise because they are more credible, less gadgety, and don't always run the same tired scripts. I even read that the latest Bond movie, "Solace" has copied a lot of the film techniques from Bourne, and that says a lot ! I think under Marshall, this will be some good stuff.

When he was on the Daily Show a few months ago, Matt Damon joked that there would be no more Bourne sequels, He joked that if they made another, it would have to be called "The Bourne Redundancy"... I guess as they say in the Bond world, Never Say Never...

That sounds wonderful to me. I love every one of the Bourne movies. I have the dvds already, but if it comes on TNT I watch it on there like I haven't seen the movie before. Matt Damon is just incredible as Bourne and the script is always on point.

Sequels are almost always duds, but I gotta say that the last Bourne was the best of the bunch, and that's saying something because all of them were great fun.

This is great news.

Action movies with brains and good acting are hard to find - I'm glad we'll get more Bourne!

I like Matt Damon but really did despise that last Bourne movie. So little dialog that it was almost a silent film, with fight sequence that set a new industry standard for intentional confusion. And the plot set a standard for unintentional confusion! It was less an artistic endeavour and more a polished commercial product, like watching a 2 hour car ad.

As Matt Damon called it on Letterman, "The Bourne Redundancy."

I've never known what part of "trilogy" Universal never understood, the greedy pigs. And Damon and Greengrass may make a useless 4th movie, but I think if Universal wants some kind of American version of James Bond franchise I think they'll eventually have to do it without Damon/Greengrass.

I've suffered through TONS of sequals and I have to say that this series is one of the best. Each movie kicked a ss! I don't think there was a stinker in the group...now will a fourth be as good? Ehh...who knows - but I hate when they take them too far and ruin them.

Meh - Bond stopped being worth the price of a movie ticket well over a decade ago. Who knows whether the 4th in the Bourne series will go the brain-dead route of today's Bond. Based on the first three, I think there's hope that this one might be worth watching as well.

The Bourne series is better in acting, writing, action and overall intelligence. I love these movies. I like the James Bond films too, but after watching a Bourne movie, I feel excited and really want to see more, whereas with Bond, I'm just like "ok, that was cool".
