Oprahs Favorite Things

Oprah's Favorite Things will be recession-friendly this year. After years of lavish giveaways — last year, for instance, she gave away an HDTV refrigerator, a camcorder, and many luxurious home products — the host will be scaling back her annual list of Christmas gift recommendations to reflect hard economic times, the show said in a statement:

"They're some of Oprah's favorite things, but this time there's a twist...they cost next to nothing! On [Wednesday's] show, viewers reveal their creative ways to spend less over the holiday season. You'll meet a mom who shows us how to create a one-of-a-kind treasure that comes straight from the heart Then, one family talks about their very own tradition that doesn't cost a cent. You'll also hear some great ideas to make your holiday party memorable and affordable. And, Oprah unveils a special gift that won't cost you a thing! Find out how to have the thriftiest holidays ever."

Probably many of these things she gave away were gifts from fans and corporations.

You can bet on that. They don't call it show BUSINESS for nothing.

I don't now if anyone is like me, but I love luxury even though I am on a budget. I buy one really nice present for myself once a year and I put a lot of thought and research behind it. I used to love watching "Oprah's Favorite Things" for inspiration, but what is the use now? However, if I was in the audience, I would be grateful for anything Oprah gave me no matter the cost. It is not fair to expect Oprah to give you stuff, just because she's uber-rich.

So you used to love watching Oprah for inspiration and "research" about the one really nice thing you'd get yourself, even though you couldn't afford it. And what's the use now?! God, the sense of loss and betrayal that you must feel. This is the most heartbreaking confession I ever read. You know what? A tragedy like yours belongs ... on Oprah's show!

jlab, she said she was on a budget. She didn't say she can't afford it. There is a difference.

We don't honestly think that Oprah knows about current "next to nothing" gifts, do we?
She has show producers to take care of her programming.

You know the people who went on this year's show are maaaaad...why does everyone think that in a recession you don't want to see anything luxurious? Especially if you can get it for free on the Oprah show?

Yes, please. Sometimes people with money have no idea how hard working class people really have it. In "O" magazine some of the purses are equivalent to a mortgage payment. No wonder Hearst is cancelling several magazines.

if it cost next to nothing, why doesn't she just give them to us free. kinda like a free car, or refrig. only smaller
