Stevens Still Involved In Far Worse Scandals

In the end, failing to properly fill out a form ended the career of Sen. Ted Stevens (R-Alaska), one of the most powerful senators in U.S. history -- famous, or maybe infamous, for wide-ranging scandals involving money, family and power.

Many in Alaska see the situation as a small, petty end to the career of a man marred with far more serious scandals, which encompassed his family, friends, money and power. The largest, most flagrant scandals include funneling money to Alaska seafood companies through his son on the same companies' payrolls; making hundreds of thousands of dollars in suspect land deals, and breaking federal lobbying laws to help shepherd Alaska into statehood in the 1950s.

And for this, the Senate gives him a standing ovation, setting yet another example of what to follow: Use corruption for many many years until you are caught and get admired by the powerful of your nation for all the years you managed to dodge law enforcement.

The corruption in Alaska runs as deep as their snow cover. The spring thaw will contain many revelations. This state has perfected the rip-off of the lower forty-eight during the past 40 years. They need an ice statue of Ted Stevens and Sarah Palin. When it melts all will be revealed.

Alaska's snows and isolation hide many political sins from the lower 48 it seems. It will be interesting to see, now that more focus is on that glacial state, just what else comes to light as to the shenanigans of Stevens and his gal pal, Palin.
