Seriously though....if you want to give a gift that is really different, you can have your own postage stamps made by the post office and put your own picture or any picture on it and give them as gifts by the roll.

I'm writing a bunch of naughty stories for my husband in Iraq. He should get good use from them.

With the economy the way it is the only thing I have to give is best wishes for everyone. I already recieved my Chrismas wish on November 4. Help where you can and ask for little.

How about the gift of security? Stop spending money you don't have on kids who, if you're honest, probably weren't good little boys and girls all year long anyway. Teach them a lesson about what Christmas truly means - kindness, not presents - and save your money for when you get laid off.

A grove of trees through TreePeople; bees or goats for a family to sustain themselves through the Heifer Project; give a child cleft surgery through The Smile Project.

You can set up a blog or website with links to these foundations and tell your friends this is what you really want for Christmas - and this is what you'll be giving. Suggest your kids join together with their classmates to give these gifts through their school.

Time for us to be a country that cares again, and overcome the greed and corruption of the Bush years one gift at a time.

Trouble is, we don't know many people that have a Digg account.

In any case, this really nice house will make some family a wonderful Christmas present on Dec 22nd, 2008.

I'm getting my elderly dad the warm pair of boots he needs, and give Mom a pair of warm slippers. Other than that, I'll be taking the money I would have spent on presents (which isn't much, but I don't have much) and donating it to the food bank. One of my sisters and her husband make donations to the Heifer Project, providing funds for poor people around the world to buy goats, chickens, pigs, bees, etc. My brother makes a family donation to a women's shelter. Two of my sisters haven't any money to spare at all.

This Christmas year will probably be harder for most. I'm sorry you lost your job. I can imagine how difficult that must be. My husband's employer is about to lay off 50 people, but noone knows it will be yet. They said they'll give the workers until after the new year.
