Clinton-Obama Detente: From Top Rival To Top Aide

The thaw in the resentful relationship between the most powerful woman in the Democratic Party and her younger male rival began at the party's convention this summer, when Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton gave such a passionate speech supporting Senator Barack Obama that his top aides leapt out of their chairs backstage to give her a standing ovation as she swept past.

Mr. Obama, who was in the first steps of what would become a strategic courtship, called afterward to thank her. By then, close aides to Mrs. Clinton said, she had come to respect the campaign Mr. Obama had run against her. At the least, she knew he understood like no one else the brutal strains of their epic primary battle.

Of course she should have free reign. If he doesn't trust someone to do the job without interference, then he shouldn't hir him/her in the first place. This is like management 101.

Whatever happened to the "fact" that she has no international experience other than as First Lady?

She messes up and you can easily FIRE HER without guilt.

Obama is smart. Hillary has never had dillusions of grandeur --- imagining herself with some exalted personage. She's always worked hard to be very real and very human with regards to civil rights.
I think she will bring a balance of patience close to the presidency. I wish she knew how proud I still am of her.

Seems to me that you people are expecting Obama to undue 24 years of republican damage before he even becomes official in January. Some of you need to take a "chill pill" and relax and let Obama do his thing. If he didn't know what he was doing, he would have never made it this far. And if you think you know better, why didn't you run instead of Obama.

Talking junk only makes you look like a fool when Obama has serious things on his mind. You can't make things move any faster than they are and you won't make him change his mind about who he feels can do a better job. So, relax and enjoy the little bit of peace we have right now.

Please understand that not all of us are sheep who need a leader to tell us what to do and 'fix" everything. That's the job of The American People. WE are the cause of this. Sitting by and letting them bully us is what caused all these problems. Bush could have been impeached 100 times if The American People were doing something besides buying toys they don't need and complaining about the administration instead of firing their butts.

I don't think Barack Obama's administration can be successful until The People realize how much power they have to change the status-quo. Sitting back and saying: "let him handle it" is how we got into this mess in the first place. Obama doesn't want that. He wants you, The People to be in charge and I think he would be disappointed to hear his supporters passing the buck to him as if he's Jesus. This is YOUR America, not politicians'.

And we, the people, gave him the permission to CHANGE our destiny the day he was voted into office. All I'm saying is, how can you begin to complain about something you know nothing about? We don't know what his intentions are so far because we haven't given him a chance to espouse them. We are putting the cart before the horse by complaining to him how he should do the job WE GAVE HIM. If he was intelligent enough to get the job, then why isn't he intelligent enough to do the job without our interruptions at least until we get to see what he is doing WITH the job. We're jumping too fast on his end and laid back and did nothing on Bush's end. We cannot fix what we didn't do on Bush, and we cannot fix what we don't know what to do on Obama yet.

As I said, all we need to do is sit back, relax, and let the man do his job FIRST. If you want to complain, take them to Bush, he's still the president don't you know. That's all I'm saying.

When we speak on Huffpo, we need to realize that we are speaking our opinions only. We cannot speak for all the people except generically speaking. I just read a post saying that We, The People, will never accept Hillary as Secretary of State and I totally disagree with that impression. I will gladly accept Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State and so will 18 million more, I'm sure. If she is working with Obama on our behalf, she is doing a good thing and should be encouraged to continue on. Anybody can change, even Hillary and Bill. And I like the way Obama can work with all kinds of people for the betterment of the country as a whole. Thank you Obama for being who you are. A great man.

hear hear, I echo your sentiments. O cannot dance to our tunes everytime we disagree, we gave him the job because we have confidence in that he can do it. Let us allow him to use that smarts. Hillary has the chops....she may have turned many of us off for what she said about O in the primaries, but our country is in crisis and we need all the expertise we can get to steer us to a more sucure status. Let us not become part of Limbauhgs and his ilk's teams. O has moved on, so should we....

The man isn't even in office yet? We sent our hard earned money to him via Internet because we believe in him and want him to do what he needs to do to get the job done. He is an inteligent man and knows what he's doing, we may not understand but he does. Let Obama get in office first before you start complaining, this cabinet might be the best cabinet that WILL work.

I like the Clinton appointment for S.O.S. As one headline on Huff. Post stated, Obama is not appointing potted plants. He does not want "yes men" (or yes women) in his administration. He will listen to a wide range of ideas on every issue befgore making policy decisions. That is going to be a big "change" from the way that George W. Bush handles policy decisions. The neocons control Bush, and he has become their yes man. Barack Obama is appointing the most intelligent, competent, confident, and capable people he can find to fill administration posts. Hillary Clinton meets all of these requirements. Her experiences as First Lady and as a US Senator have made her well known and respected around the world, so she will need no introductions to other world leaders. She has proven that she is no shrinking violet; she can stand toe to toe with anyone. High profile appointments, such as this one, show that Obama is not afraid of being overshadowed by anyone. So far, Obama has been very impressive in the way that he conducts business.

I Agree with you. Moreover, First Thing First:-

Are Cab. Positions offered to Those With The Most Connections In The Media? The Media is Lobbying For The Clintons And We Are Silent. How About Those Who Supported Prez From The Start?

we the people, we will never accept Hillar as SOS.
69,000,000 voted for CHANGE, change in Foreign and Domestic Policies. We must unite to ask Prez-Obama to not give-in to Media Lobying for The Clintons.

I am asking you to join me in e-mailing (Millions Of You!!!) to obama-camp (Not Transition Team - They are Infested By Clinton People)Voices For Cange. Do it before he "Officially" offers her the post.
Republicans are already at College Campuses (my daughter just called me) telling students " You voted For Chane and You Got Clintons Re-instated blah blah.. and that they should join "Young Republicans, and the Obama "lied" to them all. I know many on this blog are clinton supporter, but the primaries fight is over - Obama won both times and at a far greater numbers than even the primaries. Also, there is speculation that Joe Biden will resign if SOS goes to Hillary ( I don't think this is true-because they are friends) Republicans are using her to take the youth away from Obama.

Lieberman was on M-TP. The bil-e in my stomach was churning through the whole interview. Never once apologetic for supporting McCain. He wasn't ch@s-tised. He even said he actually was okay with giveing up the Environmental chair! He does see it as punis-hment at all! He sees it as a change to focus on his important work in H0m-el@-nd Security, keeping the country safe! Really? I think what he really wants to do is keep the P@-tri0t @ct and FI-S@ intact! He even said more than once that it was Obama who convince Reid to let bygones be bygones! Whaaaaaaat?

Lieberman is a non-issue at this point. If he doesn't toe the line and do what is necessary of him, he will be out and it will be of his own accord. He knows what is expected and nothing less. If he messes up again, he's toast and will be out of the government completely at that point.

Some twits get really nervous and uncomfortable over the prospect of two or more very smart people being in the same room together... kinda spoils the curve for them.

I feel sad and pity for those folks who gave their very small donations and wished they could send more. They were obviously sacrificing.

I f they -- and we -- had wanted to reinstate the Clintons as Chief Powerbrokers in our nation once again. I think they would have donated to her. As I recall, her debts are still way up there. partly because of her own lack of fiscal responsibility.

And now she is to be, rumored as yet, in charge of a hefty budget for our most important agency. If nothing else, that seems a pretty irresponsible fiscal choice. .

Did you miss the part of the campaign where Obama said he wanted to go back to the Clinton era income tax rates?

The change you voted for is Obama takig us back to Clinton's tax policy.

Obama thinks Clinton had some good ideas and came to admire HRC during their tough campaign.

It was right there in front of us the whole campaign.

Chuck Todd on MTP called PE Obama's team a TEAM OF EGOS. This is why this team will be an added challenge to his Presidency. He has enough challenges to deal with, why add to them?

Trying to find a politician, Obama included, without a healthy ego is like trying to find a happy turkey during the holidays.
