A Republican-generated effort to get out the vote for the Dec. 2 runoff election has hit a snag as thousands of requests for absentee ballots have been denied because the applications were not signed.

County elections officials are contacting voters by mail, directing them to print applications from county or state election Web sites and fax them in by Wednesday.

The voters in Georgia should--and deserve--to get every reasonable accomodation to enable them to vote. If that means a second chance to sign a form, so be it. That's the right thing to do, and the principles of democracy demand no less.

This past week, Saxby missed voting on extending unemployment benefits.

Why?

He was out giving a campaign speech.

Until the "Criminals" in the Congress are weeded out nothing will change much, and most of them are in the "Republican party" that's pretty much factual.

I bet you everything, the GOP is behind all of those. Reminds me of the two stolen elections by Bush!

dirty tricks? Probably not. Just typical Americans who don't bother to read instructions.

"fax them in"???

Imagine the outcry from the republicans if the unsigned absentee ballots were primarily those of democrats and someone at the board of elections said "just sign them and fax them in".

When you know you can't win in a fair fight or on your own merits (especially when you have none) I guess you feel entitled to stoop to lower than the lowest to conquer if not win for yourself and your agenda.

That's what the GOP and Rovian thinking comes down to.

On a much less serious scale, I feel the same way about athletes who cheat to win. How can you feel good about winning when you know you didn't really win? Isn't there something perverse about that? To hark back 50+ years: "Have you no shame?"

Does anyone seriously still believe that Bush actually won in the 2000 election? (Well, I guess he did WIN - it's just that he wasn't actually elected...) And yet he and Cheney have RULED like they had a mandate for the past eight years.

Me too but this is how they do things in the south. If there is one area in the US that is in desparate need of reforn it is the south.

Total election fraud.....put them behind bars, freeze their assets. This ishould include the last two elections. Hold the GOP personally responsible.

Now all the GOP senators are whining that they will not be heard.....They certainly did not hear the voters for the past 8 years. Stick it to them.

Yes, Georgia . . . hmmmmmm . . . story seen on the internet recently: officials in Paulding County (on the stateline with Alabama) announced the opening of a $19-million airport/runway facility for private jets -- not open to the public -- and only days later announced the layoff of dozens of county police and firefighters, due to budget shortfalls . . .

Gee, sounds like the Georgia I know . . . millions for the "needs" of the rich, while everybody else can go blow themselves.

When a new Wal-Mart said it was accepting applications for jobs in Atlanta, earlier this year, 7,000 people applied for 400 jobs -- that's how bad it is there.

And, it's a Rethuglican administration, top to bottom, running things there -- big surprise it's such a mess. No wonder the's an old joke about driving into Georgia and seeing signs that read, "Welcome To Georgia, You May Now Set Your Clocks Back 100 Years!"

After I voted by Absentee ballot this election, I received from the GOP this same kind of ballot to vote absentee. This is how they do it and have been doing it since Nixon. I tell you, there are dual voters all over the south, I cast my ballot early, and threw the bogus ballot away. Further I am not now or ever have I been a Republican. So receiving an absentee ballot from them did not fly with me.

Also, ever heard them say, 'Vote as often as you can"? They are serious about that.

The persons, on this comment who are passing it off, and denying this, know how it goes, and therefore are making it an 'isolated incident' situation yet again...

ABSOLUTELY CORRECT.

THE SOUTHERN GOP HAVE ALSO MADE SUPRESSION OF MINORITY VOTES A SCIENCE.

Standardized election systems and procedures nation-wide are badly needed. It is ridiculous to have a process so susceptible to manipulation and fraud.

Yes. We need universal election reform almost as much as we need universal health-care reform. It is simply absurd to have the rules vary state by state and even county by county.

I'm all for state's rights - but this is just utterly dysfunctional and stupid.

No crayons to sign their ballots, I guess.

I don't know folks. We should not jump to conclusions that a bunch of unsigned republican ballot requests means there is fraud.

Most republicans in Georgia can't write. Do the ballots have an X? A lot of these Republicans don't have teeth either.

C'mon. Go to Raw Story and read about the 2002 Georgia election. Chris Hood is a whistleblower on Diebold.

I don't live in Georgia, but you have taken this description of Georgia people a little bit too far. What state do you live in so I can make sure to catagorize your state's character defects?

I imagine people without teeth are poor.

Don't you?

Any chance the RNC completed these ballots, knowing they would be questioned, and the voter contacted, and given an opportunity to vote. It's a slick move, and it's voter fraud, they should be rejected.

It is amazing how an enormous amount of underhanded tricks are being either uncovered and/or discovered and points directly to the outdated Grand Ole' Party.

Very desperate and demoralized group of thugs.
