Dirty Tricks? Thousands Of GOP Ballot Requests In Georgia Don't Have Signatures

Atlanta Journal-Constitution:

A Republican-generated effort to get out the vote for the Dec. 2 runoff election has hit a snag as thousands of requests for absentee ballots have been denied because the applications were not signed.

County elections officials are contacting voters by mail, directing them to print applications from county or state election Web sites and fax them in by Wednesday.

This si going to be very tenditious. The Elections Board is going to have to be very fastidious about absentee ballots...making sure that ALL have signatures on the ballot when submitted...and checking these with the signatures on the rolls/registration forms. In addition, the names will have to be double-checked in case the voter may try and vote twice.

This has a very high risk of people who are not the voters obtaining absentee ballots, submitting a vote, and then the real voter either showing up to vote (resulting in a challenge) or even having a vote submitted when they had not intent to participate.

It's certainly a republican scam and another attempt to subvert democracy. i bet 90 percent of them are registered republicans. You know the poll workers won't be checking those signatures against those on the voter rolls so it could be an even bigger scam. The Georiga AG needs to be on this.

Read the entire article. 100% of these missing-signature-so-no-absentee-ballot-for-you request cards were from.... drum roll... REGISTERED REPUBLICANS. The cards were sent out as a "courtesy" to registered Republicans by the state GOP. Obama sent people and resources down there to help the Dem state party, as did MoveOn.org (I've gotten emails from both). You think either of those organizations made a blunder this big? Not in this news story.

Who are the cards being mailed to? Republicans only? Every registered voter? Or, to Democrats? How could it be a dirty trick ploy if they're being mailed to Republicans only? If they're just being mailed to Democrats and the signature line has purposefully been obscured, then it's definitely a dirty trick. HuffPost either needs a better headline or a more complete story.

The story says "DeKalb is accepting applications that are unsigned on the signature line of the application if the voter wrote his or her name in cursive on the first line.".

I wonder if that flexibility only applies to Republican applications?

I live in DeKalb Co. GA....It is a very LIBERAL county....This was a Republican mailing....The election office in DeKalb is very LIBERAL in allowing the Republican absentee vote mailing be valid if the entry line was "signed" in cursive...

What's happening is operatives for the republicans are making copies of the applications and using republican voter registration rolls to fill them out for that person so they will receive them in the mail.

then they are more likely to send them in since they don't have to go to the trouble of filling out the application themselves.

the reason they need a signature is to prevent just this kind of voter scam. the applications should all be thrown away. the names written in cursive were an attempt to get the application approved and avoid breaking the law by not signing the form where it asked for the signature.
